Maybe we missed some subtle clues of a bromance?

I hope fish hasn’t followed schooner (metaphorically speaking)?! 😊 Me?, no, I went windsurfing. Tried my foil out for the first time in anger - very cool! No wheelies or big-air crashes - tick! Infact, the board behaves like a keel boat now, the foil weighs as much as the board, so very easy to stay on, get started and gybe etc. 10-15 knts of breeze cruising around at 11-13 knts, I could get onto the plane very very easily (foil gives lift to break out at sub-planning speeds). Blast across the bay and slowly move my back foot back, shift weight back, and suddenly everything goes quiet (lift off). Being my first go I was only doing 'flying fish' - short bursts just above the water, so as to avoid big-air crashes. Far easier to learn than windsurfing I reckon. For Comfort Zone and Fogg talking about learning wing-foiling, apparently wing-foiling is easier to learn than wind-foiling (less power and speed, so less hazardous). But, I was chatting to two guys who were wind-foiling at the beach, one was 73 and the other 75 - so age isn't a barrier. Wind-foiling is less physical than windsurfing. I always thought it was easier on the knees, but they reckon it is less upper-body work. CZ, you posted a link about Pete Smith's windsurfing school at Pt Chev (I've lost the thread), I've had a session with him, very good. He is good for wind-surfing. If you want to try out the wing stuff, then Alan at Madloop, Lake Pupuke is the guy to see. Pt Chev isn't really deep enough for foils, esp at low tide. Alan reckons he can get you foiling in 10 lessons from scratch. i would say if you already know how to sail, that would be quicker. The advantage of wings is you can fit the gear on a boat very easily. Windsurfing gear is harder to stow and rig on a boat. That, and there is a high volume of second had wing gear available, less so with the windsurfing gear. Be warned though, it is addictive, once you start, it is like going down a rabbit hole, always wanting bigger wings, upgraded foils, fast foils, smaller foils, etc. Very accessible sport though, it is great fun.

Yeah easy stowage is the key attraction of wing foiling for me - hopefully with the ability to stow onboard. But not sure how easy it would be to operate off an anchored boat vs the beach.

Thanks for the info. Also sounds like owning a motorbike, there is always that next accessory you just have to have, then upgrade the riding gear etc etc

Possibly easier off a boat. You have to get in deep enough water for the foil, so a minimum of waist deep anyway. All you really need is a stern platform of some sort, for getting the board & foil into and out of the water. There is a family who kids sail out of Manly. They often park their yacht in Manly and the father foils around all day off the boat while the kids are sailing. When they finish, he ties the foil & wing to the transom and paddle-boards over to the beach to help he kids and his missus pack up...

It is great that we have people joining who are the exact people who have stopped the same discussions on the other forum and have actively banned people. I welcome you. I find it interesting that you are happy to have the discussions here but not in the other place, who want to create their own echo chamber over there and justify their participation here as bringing balance, stopping alternative facts etc (maybe putting words in your mouth). A free world, so good on you I guess for taking advantage of it, whilst exercising what you consider to be appropriate censorship over there. Again a free world. ? Do you know who I am over there?... I thought / hoped you might be BP? 😊

So no, I don’t think you are, unfortunately.

I was going to let him know next time I'm speaking to him, but he probably wouldn't be bothered. Noting that KaC and BP's style, language and views are substantially different. Such a coincidence that KaC turns up the day after Schooner deletes himself, has an axe to grind with me and eri, and blows smoke up Schooners arse. Such a shame people feel the need to be so duplicitous.
