So this is probably the beginning of the end of the imported used car market in NZ. As more cars become EV / hybrids then NZ-new or NZ-used will be the only options.

It will be more due to the clean car standard. Imports have only been between 5 and 9 thousand for a year or so, been coming off the boil for a while... new cars are becoming very cheap, well the cheap ones are anyway

Yeah but in response to the clean car standards you’d expect a natural shift in imports from used ICE to used EV/ hybrids to meet demand for more affordable cars - think of the miles of car lots around the Auckland regions! But those are now off the cards.

EV's are one trick ponies, ICE's are multi talented.

The reason I know about all the ‘value’ based car lots from Manukau to New Lynn and beyond is… that’s where I buy all my cars. You see where I was bought up shiny new cars were considered tacky, vulgar & classless. The only people who had new cars were: 1. Travelling salesmen 2. Lotto winners 3. Royalty (they get given them) 4. Drug dealers / gangsters 5. Footballers / WAGS Where we live in Herne Bay the streets are dripping with this kind of vulgar classless tat mostly European but with a growing number of Teslas. Which is why I take great pride in driving an unwashed 16yr old Land Rover ‘workhorse’ around which visibly offends the Ponsonby WAGs if I dare to park it within visible range of their weekday mid-morning skinny-almond-tofu-capp-latte stop. Which I try to do as often as possible. 😊

Car shaming in Herne Bay, there's something so wrong going on there and I mean on a planetary level

I always thought driving a 16 yr old unwashed Land Rover was a massive class statement. "My landy is so fucken tough, I don't neeeeeed to replace it, let alone wash it...."
Like a proper southern ocean ice strengthened trawler parking amongst all the plastic fantastic Rivs & Martimo's in the marina. The sheer functionality and practicalness of the design puts them to shame.
