I was cruising for something the other evening and ran into a doco about prop design of Subs and how they go to extreme length to make them quite. A good look and explanation of the theory of some of them, very interesting.
Coincidently today in a news thing I get there was a snippet about a new prop coming to NZ, it was a sales pitch obviously, but check it out.
Do you reckon it was designed by Salvador Dali?

wow, have not seen that before, found the company that developed them www.sharrowmarine.com/sharrow-propellerit is sort of like another way to achieve the effect of a ducted propeller/Kort Nozzle - minimising the losses off the prop tips. Will be interesting to see how it plays out

I love it how the laws of physics haven't changed, yet companies can still dream shit up to sell more tat.
I can see a big market for this prop of the fisho's though. Its quiet, so wont scare the fish...

Quoted usually means more efficient too.
Also looks safer / reduced snag risk?

You'll know what divers it runs over, the body will have no slashes but quite a few scoops. Yeap a Sharrows prop. Agree Mr Fish, the nosie angle will sell them to the fishos....by which I don't mean the Fish Family

I think a mooring rope / anchor rope around that fancy prop is going to have the same result as around a conventional prop, new stern leg... I think the issue is speed of rotation, when you are talking about entanglement, noting that the water flow pulls everything through onto the prop. Its not the prop tips that are catching it, in that sense. The rope / line etc will be wrapped around the root of the prop before you can say "was that a low flying Ross 930?"

Could you imagine an electric drive with the silent prop? It would be stealth mission 101. Spear fisho's would love it.
I know all the hard core fisho's are getting these fancy electric drives they dangle off the bow, but they are for holding over spot x rather than moving aren't they?

Yeah I can picture James Shaw burning around in one of those in his kaftan

Our eOutboard has improved fishing from the dinghy. What sort of fishing are you doing from the dinghy? How is the spear fishing going? I bought myself a gun, 90 cm Wettie Reef pro. Haven't got it wet yet :-( But have been learning to use the fancy free-diver fins, almost worked out how to get neutral weigthing, and am working om my breath hold. I've rigged up my 2.9m deflatable with some star-port rod holders and have managed some suitable fishing off that (47cm snap is my PB so far), but with a 2Hp Yamaha. Only luck has been drifting over the worm beds, or spinning for Kahawai. Hasn't actually worked around rocky spots / at anchor yet, which is where I was intending to use the dinghy. Don't want to take the mothership in close to rocky / foul & reefs... Maybe we should start a thread, I couldn't find the thread where you mentioned the kingfish you speared.

If you’re that keen - which it sounds like you are - I strongly advise you take the weekend freediving / spearfishing course with the Ocean Hunter guys. One of the best ~$500 I spent and learned tons in theory snd practise. Including some potentially life-saving tips and practises. It would answer all your Qs and more much more reliably than my dodgy answers!
If you do sign up, I’d suggest you do some good breatholding / apnea practice beforehand to get the most from the course. You can find lots of those online.
