Deep Purple has just finished the Aviemore Classic regatta. an amazing time in the most beautiful setting. Friday was a drifter horror show but we bounced back Saturday and todays long race to finish just behind sister ship 44 40 on line Friday nowhere 4th nowhere Saturday 4th 1st 2nd 2nd Sunday classic 2nd Totally worth the 3 day trip each way to get here View AttachmentView AttachmentView AttachmentGood one mate ! Pleasing to see the 750Ts are closer in speed now . I must’ve been sailing it wrong ! She's a different boat now. Wings, foils, god knows what else. We really couldn't get near it Attachments:

Did the coastal classic . Had a great start but cocked up the tactics and did total opposite to what I told the crew I was going to do . Swore black and blue we were going out the back but changed my mind at the last minute and went up the inside and lost an hour on the rest of our division . Had fun though and boat was brilliant even overhauled a 400k bells and whistles RNI boat in a squall downwind 😎. Attachments:

Yep. Our son has a Riv and I don't offer to help with fuel when we go out. I consider it's payback time. Looking for a single screw shaft drive.

Semi planning, 12 to 14knt cruise speed. If I went for a 8knt displacement launch, I would have been better to keep the Lotus which cruised comfortably at 6.5knt and was a better sea boat.

If I went for a 8knt displacement launch, I would have been better to keep the Lotus which cruised comfortably at 6.5knt and was a better sea boat. between 10 and 15 kts is an inefficient speed range because the boat is typically in transition between displacement and planing, if you want some speed better to look for something that will cruise at 16+ knots These are the numbers for a Corsair, which is better than most. You can see the bump in the LPNM at 1800. Also remember for turbo'd engines you need to have the turbo humming at cruise speed, for any of the 6 litre 6 cyl engines, such as the Volvo below, you want to be running 2200 - 2400rpm

Nit sure if it’s on your radar but the salthouse coastal sits in the 12-14kt range semi displaces the water too with a smallish power plant . Bit of a grandad boat to look at though . I worked at the Corsair/coastal factory and can vouch for the build quality 😂

Salthouse coastal seems to travel very high in the bow, even with trim tabs. Corsair is definitely on my radar. If you know someone that is thinking of selling, let me know.

Right you are , they even have a blob of concrete in the bow to help keep it down . the vice commodore of our club has just gone to the light side and I think he still has Hawk the old customs Corsair . Will find out and let you know

The aft cabin MkII's are a little cramped and the up and down from the cockpit to main saloon is an inconvenience. It is remarkable how few production launches eg Corsairs and Vindexes are currently on the market

It is remarkable how few production launches eg Corsairs and Vindexes are currently on the market The owner is the Volvo agent in Whangarei and is a marine engineer . It was a freaking long time ago but from memory the aft cabin in that boat was originally the brig .

I remember hearing a story about the original Deodar, if prisoners behaved themselves they could stay in the wheelhouse and drink coffee with the crew, if they played up they were handcuffed to a cleat in the very open cockpit. Did not need to be rocket scientists to figure out the better option
