Bulshitt Go30. You have never been given the well paid privilage of being the justice minister. Also .. everybody has mental stress from a breakup. 99% of us less fortunates eat rocks, harden up and carry
Now do it with a gun in your face many times a day
Now do it with a knife jambed in your face many times a day
Now do it knowing 10000's of your people need you as their hero and bit of a saviourcto proteft them Now do it knowing a large number are willing you to fail Now do it knowing you have been given a role that you have to serve and protect that you do take very seriously
Now do it with an entire nation being given 10 minute updates of your policing life
Now do it with people who think you're an arsehole voppurely as you are not in the same gang as they are. Now do it knowing there will be keyboard warriors pulling their pud furiously if you do cock something up. Now do it in the dark when there enemies ready to kill you Thats what the police do every day with less money and perks.

Now imagine this grown adult knowingly under the influence plowing into a car and killing a member of your family. If she hurts herself due to her poor irresponsible decisions then that is one thing but when she risks the lives of me and my family that is another. She is big enough and ugly enough to take responsibilty for her own mental health and manage it accordingly. Many people who find themselves in front of a judge have mental issues. Is that a reason to go soft on them? How Labours going soft on crims working so far? Ffs she deserves the full weight of the law. I know 2 teenagers who had mental issues and killed themselves due to comments exactly like yours.
Go and either educate yourself or seek medical help.

You are entitled to your opinion but Kiri is not a teenager. I also think it is ridiculous that you think someone would top themselves due to any of my comments above.

I think the key point here is how misunderstood and widespread mental health issues are and the complexities that arise when things go wrong for people who have been otherwise trying to get on with normal life.
The figs vary by type of illness but between 20-25% of the worlds population struggles with a diagnosable mental health condition each year. But far fewer are actually diagnosed.
That means around 1 billion people on this planet have struggles.
Look around you as you go about your day today and realise that 20-25% of the people you encounter have some kind of issue.
And if youโve ever seen someone who you are close to / love struggling you will realise they can totally change from a calm, normal and likeable person into the most awful, angry & aggressive person who you just want to get away from.
And when that happens, you realise many of the things they do and say when they are unwell, they do not mean. And after the event they are genuinely remorseful and regretful.
This means that yes, someone with mental health issues needs to learn how to take as much responsibility for their own well-being as possible. But it also means that other people around them - who know them well like friends, family and even trusted Co-workers - need to know when a line has been crossed and when to step in and launch an intervention.
In Alanโs case, she clearly lacked the support network to help her make the right decisions for herself.
So yes she deserves to pay the consequences of her actions - she already has in many respects eg losing her job, public disgrace etc etc.
But I place far more blame on those around her who let her continue to operate in a vulnerable condition. Somebody - a doctor or a friend or an assistant - should have prevented her from driving for example.

You are entitled to your opinion but Kiri is not a teenager. I also think it is ridiculous that you think someone would top themselves due to any of my comments above. I have seen someone commit suicide as they didn't get the number of likes they expected and wanted on Instagram. Try getting a phone call at 4am from a 26yo good mate of your kids whose just swallowed 3 bottles of pills due to something you, I and most would just dismiss as a nothing or minimal but they have taken it personal, so personal they want to end their life.
For the last 12 years I have big brothered a group of once were teenagers with the same sort of issues Kiri has and includes suicides. Its fucking scary how little it can take to push them from OK to over the edge and often that edge is the difference between life and death. In our next group chat, which is run by real medical professionals, I'm sure one of them will mention this Kiri thing. They do have huge empathy for those they see in the same space they are.
As I said educate yourself and if yo do you will understand how far out on the very ragged edge people can get, sometimes while appearing reasonably normal.
I can understand you nativity, it is a subject most struggle with as most just do not understand how fragile these people can get, I was myself until I slapped in the face with it. All I'm saying is give them a break as your comments will only be adding to the 'I want this shit to end' column. By 'I want this shit to end' I mean suicide.

As is very clearly being shown here some just do not understand what Kiri and many others have been facing, will face today, tomorrow and for their entire lives. Add in all the extra pressure and bullshit that comes with living in the public eye and I'd wish it no one ever.
I saw Willie Jackson talking about it, he cares and appears to have tried help and knows she needs it. But somehow or other, no of us know the details of, she came back and it ended very badly. As some comments in the last few days from people who know a ministers existence have said it seems like there wasn't the support there that is needed. Kiri is not the first to go there.
I have no time for Kiris politics, none for her parties politics, I'd rate the performance of both as total crap and Kiri should face the law for her actions just like everyone else but that is not reason to trash someone with very serious and often life threatening issues.

I think the mental health thing needs a seperate thread.
This thread is about a fully grown woman who, as a justice minister of NZ, drove drunk and crashed into a parked car, done a runner and then resisted arrest all because she broke up with her girlfriend of 5 minutes.
My mind is blown that some on here are trivalising it and allowing it to be down played because the mental health card has been pulled.
If this is the new benchmark, should anyone be held accountable if they have a breakup, go on a bender and crash into cars, people, buildings?

You have no idea who you are talking to and you are making dumb ass asumptions. I was one of those kids that you talk about. Homeless, state care, adolescent units and sleeping on the streets in my early teens. Stealing cars, police chases, assaults, drug dealing, Stood in front of the judge on many occasions and paid my dues. Hospitalised several times which I won't go in to so don't fuckin talk to me like I don't know about mental health.

If parliament had been more honest with the bullying allegations etc. Do you think we would be talking about this? She fucked up but there are some other serious issues that need addressing, leadership has a lot to answer for. Every place I have worked for the last 15 years has offered free confidential counselling services. Have been involved with several instances of people, including myself, speaking up about concerns for others in the workplace. Worksafe at the very least should be all over parliament over this cluster f.

Well how ever it happened you do appear to have come thru it very well which is awesome. I would think the majority of how well you have come through that is on you yourself rather than all on the Judges and medicals around you, which makes it even more awesome. I say that as you certainly don't come across as being down that hole or worse a loony tunes like SailorTwat. It's encouraging to hear good news outcomes like that.
But that should also make you more aware than most of how fragile and on the edge people can be are when deep in that hole.

The place is obviously a A Grade shambles and over the last week or so we are seeing many more openly fighting for their personal survival so I'd think if Kiri was saying she was fine then she was probably not on any radars that maybe she should have been. I do think Chippy did appear quite sincere when he said he offered her more time off but she wanted to come back. Then add in trying to tell a Maori Woman what to do in this climate would be a very brave call.

G030, you are becoming quite the apologist for these morons in Labour.
Hipkins instigated all the issues labour have under Arderns rule and never once questioned the co gov, 19 waters, radio nz... issues. Then he takes the reigns as the polls fall and then suddenly stalls all the issues inorder to buy votes. I believe this devisive moran even has his grand mother on trade me for sale.
Im sorry but Kiri Alan is an adult who cannot keep blaming everything else for her fucked up life.
As for youth suicides, Ardern and Clark (the covid cyclist health minister) promised in 2018 that they would fix the problem. They failed because these kids dont need blind kindness, they nรจed values, disciplined order, direction, and to be kept aay from useless parents, radicalized teachers, and dumb unsocial media.
.if my kids HAD ever showed one sign of depression they would be quickly sorted, starrting with the removal of thier phone and a few very robust analysis of their freinds and teacher and influencers... including me.

What is the suicide rate for farmers in New Zealand? Between 2012 and 2020, a farmer died by suicide about every three weeks. That is 153 farmers or farm workers, according to the Ministry of Justice.31/08/2021
I suspect that number will grow with the after effects of rain/cyclone in the Te Rawhiti area. But will it make headlines like youth suicide??probably not.
Mental stress/bullying in the work place or edeucation system is very high. Kiri Allen is just the tip of the iceberg. As interst rise, unemployment rises, costs to farmers, foresrty industry.
Give 10yrs and we will be shocked, statistics bad enough now. Looking at the downtown shooting, was it mental stress, suicide??
