I'm pondering either a family cruise (all weekend) or a day trip to Tiri on Saturday. Although the surf is going to be good at Orewa, so I may just take the family for a day surfing / playing in the waves / building confidence / having fun at the beach. If we go for a cruise it will be somewhere easy and close, probably Rangi / Izzy Bay

I’m really looking forward to the easterly trade wind fucking off this weekend . Cant remember such a long stint of E winds like we’ve been having Believe it when I see it. It’s been blowing 10kts above forecast from the E for the last 3 days up here at Kawau. I’m expecting more E/SE over the weekend all be it slightly lighter. And the E swell will be with us for a while yet.

And the E swell will be with us for a while yet. Best windsurfing / foiling conditions there has been for a long time. I did 4 days in a row, and about to go out for another session. But yeah, I've not been using the boat I'm still waiting for those classic late summer blocking highs where I can go anywhere with the kids and have settled weather for swimming / snorkelling and calm anchorages, and nothing to upset the kids or put them off. If it doesn't happen soon I may need to buy some learner rigs for the windsurfer and get them into a new activity altogether.

Blocking highs is what we’ve been getting - hence they’ve been pushing all the ex-TCs to the east or west of us (over AUS). But they’ve been more energetic and edgy than usual.
I know at least one boating family who have found this season’s persistent easterlies the final straw to make them sell their boat. But it was a 46ft planing launch which hates being errrr… out of the marina and on the open ocean!

Going back in time my father had a launch and I remember him complaining about persistent easterlies around this time of year.. Mid 50's - 60's if my memory serves me correctly

On the other hand I do really like the afternoon sea breeze patterns we get in Jan/Feb some years. Little to no wind in the morning and 10-12 in the Arvo which dies off in the evening again
