Thanks Fogg. Sounds like I'm not alone especially when I'm told "this has never happened before" to any other customer. Bollocks. Pretty much made my mind up. I'll go for good old fashioned lead acid batteries and lower the amp hours as per Fish's advice. Great forum, thanks for all the help lads!

I’ve been looking at the Bluetooth monitors. I have the BEP monitor with shunt already. If I got a cheap Bluetooth one like ancel 300 pro can I wire it in somewhere other than across the batteries?? At the shunt? All three sets of batteries go to the BEP just one set setup for AMPs. Looking at the Acel 200 (do not see a 300 their site), this just connects to positive and negative terminals (there should be a fuse on the positive side), it does not use a shunt. Not quite sure how accurate it would be as it is only working off voltage, no way to measure current flow.

Why do I keep coming across this sort of drama when I'm thinking about using AGM batteries? They always sound better but seem incredibly dependent on "a perfect world" happening. They also seem to be guaranteed to fail after 4 or 5 years no matter how nice you are. I find checking my FLA house batterie level every 3 or 4 months no big deal, top up maybe twice a year. Never had one fail before its time and can last years beyond expectations. Said it before and I will repet again.My son who is in too this battery world,still technology isnt there yet and if you must use litho type go for litho pos as fairly stable but old flod technology is perfect for what most use them for in marine situations,starter/house and fairly cheap to replace every 5yrs or so,no fancy charging/monitoring required

Just had a indepth(over my head) conversation with the boy.Lithium non stable and Lithium potassium stable(less likely to catch fire) never leave in 100% state nor constantly dischagrge to below 30% 2 quickest ways to kill them. Fine in home solar charging system as monitoring equipment is better quality and households with discharges really get to 100%. Then came the graphs and stuff way past me.

That 3 to 5 years for AGM is nothing but marketing bullshit or like so many anchor comments, they are made by people with the vast experience of 1 some maybe 2.
I have a 35ah AGM that is easy 12 years old and it still holds charge like the day it was made, it history is checked. I have 2 x100ah here in rural that are 6 years old and hold charge perfectly, they are in the first solar install I did up here which is active but not doing much bar some fences, it's a tidy but less than ideal install.
I went lithium in the boat but never been happy with it's twitchness so that's going to change to a ??, maybe AGM unless my battery man talks me into something else, he wants lead crystal but I have no way too charge them, they need to be charged big and hard. My theory is after watching many for a few years, is that if the battery fiddlers paid themselves 30 notes an hour for the time they spend sussing, yabbering , fiddling with, error tracing and so on their batteries, it would be cheaper for them to buy good GEL or AGM every 7-8-10 years. Time span used from past experience.
Actually just thinking about it, on D1's micro house solar install, we build when she was a turd former, is still using the FLA we scored off Tory Rigger Evans when one of the PoA tugs changed it's banks. D1 is now ....shit I think I'm suppose to know this in the 28yo area. So those FLA must have been in use for nearly 20 years now. But we have detected capacity is reducing.
Is it the battery giving you grief or the less than ideal install you want it to live in?
