Couple of Qs:
Are the usual rubbish barges out there eg Man O War, Barrier, BOI?
Any clever tips for managing the inevitable waste generated by a young family including nasty stuff like nappies?
And what’s the latest tech wizardry eg rubbish crushing onboard?

Couple of Qs: Are the usual rubbish barges out there eg Man O War, Barrier, BOI? Any clever tips for managing the inevitable waste generated by a young family including nasty stuff like nappies? And what’s the latest tech wizardry eg rubbish crushing onboard? Kind Auckland Council put a stop to the rubbish barges a couple of years ago. per www.greatbarrier.co.nz/travel-essentials/zero-waste/waste-disposal/it looks like you can buy rubbish bags for dumping at Port Fitzroy and also dispose of your recyclables NRC have a barge running around the BOI to collect rubbish at $7/bag Key though is get rid of as much packaging as possible before you leave. Look for food products in sachets rather than glass or tins. When I was cruising the sth Pacific islands rubbish disposal was not easy, and there was no recycling. As for nappies (if you don't go for cotton clean and wash type), all I can suggest is sealed bags in a sealed locker and get them potty trained as soon as possible

I think I read on the Council website that the Man O War one is there. On the Barrier you have to go into the wharf and there is recycling, plus you can buy a bag for other rubbish. If you are near Pine harbor you can duck in on the fuel wharf and there are bins up the path a bit
