The mighty Deep Purple has some new bling from Willis Sails. Squeezed an extra 3.5 sq metres of sail onto the mast and a new gennaker that slots in between big red, the ginormous masthead and the fractional. They arrived an hour before race time last night and we got them up for a look and comparison. Also an inner jib on a furler but we had enough on our plate last night a comparison of old and new |

Jeez! Is there some kind of ratio / calculation of sail area per foot of boat length or displacement? If there is then DP must be right up there with the best of them. You’ve got way more sail area than I have on Fogg! 😳

Thats a big bit of extra. How does she feel under her new rags? Can you notice any significant differance?

Felt really alive in the breeze and when it lightened right off we still managed to be quite powered up and moving. Today I put up the inner jib that will double as a storm jib for short handed events and a staysail for reaching Attachments:
