I have to acknowledge the warm & friendly response of GH marina over the last few days in response to a mini-drama on the good ship Fogg…
On Thur night - because we were in the marina not at anchor - the ship’s cat disappeared off the boat somewhere. We presumed she had wandered off in the dark and got lost rather than drowned. As a much-loved family pet you can imagine the mood has been pretty somber last few days whilst we searched in vain for her.
The marina staff have been amazing - they allowed us to stick up posters around the marina (in fact they even printed them for me) despite private flyers being technically ‘verboten’.
And the whole marina staff including security were briefed to keep a lookout to help us track our young cat down. And walking around the marina last few days talking to a wide range of people I’ve been astonished how many other cat-lovers there are out there in the boating community. And it seemed that the whole marina was aware of her missing status very quickly - including liveaboards and contractors etc.
With the help of one of the cat-loving marina admin staff we tracked down a local source of approved live cat traps and I set up 3 of them yesterday afternoon in the hope she would venture out one evening, as 48hrs of hunger drove her out of hiding to seek food.
Which she did - and at about 9pm last night as the entire family wandered around the marina calling her name we heard a familiar ‘meow’ and we were overjoyed to find her safely caught inside one of the traps which I’d placed a few hours earlier!
I informed the marina staff and they called off their night search - the guys had literally just gone out for another look.
So, thanks to GH marina for a friendly & supportive response - which I feel deserves recognition especially when marinas rarely get much good press!
