 Yeap. Mind you you do have cruising sails i.e small and heavy.
Don't start me on in mast furling sails, convenient but ..... 
And big colourful sails are the most fun, if you get scary at the same time that's just a bonus.

Hear what you are saying. "A good days sailing in NZ, It nearly makes up for the issues NZ has.
But the Med is so much better, diverse, and cheaper.
