Hey guys
There have been several new user arrivals & departures over the last few days resulting from heightened tensions in the General Discussion forum.
I don't want to sound patronising but I feel it's worth a reminder that the stated aimed aim of this forum is to provide a place for free & open discussion and to be unmoderated except in the most extreme circumstances.
Which means I'm trying to treat everyone like grown adults - with no bans or warnings issued.
Which means we all carry personal responsibility for our actions & outcomes i.e. to a large extent you reap what you sow.
If you find yourself locking horns with another user then please take a step back, take a breath and hold-off from hitting the Reply button. Either wait until the next day to reply or consider disengaging altogether and go and visit the 'On the water' forum and talk about sailing instead!
I believe that everyone here has the intellect and forum experience to understand that when you are at loggerheads with another user the worst thing to do is continuing trying to tell them why you are right and they are wrong. And the escalation of tensions usually happens over several posts and several days - so everyone should have the ability to spot trouble brewing and play their own part in de-escalation of tensions.
People often use the analogy of a sailing forum as a yacht club bar. Sure, have a robust debate. But don't let it spill over into anything more ugly. So walk away until another day rather than descend into a fist-fight!
The weather is great - so why not try to take a break from Covid and go sailing instead!
Thanks.
