I quite enjoyed the Queen’s beautifully worded message to COP26 world leaders - try to be better than normal politicians for a change and try to be true statesmen. youtu.be/eXvfqUe4EFQ

I think most of us are guilty of double standards at various times. And the wealthiest ego-driven personalities just do the same but with more zeros on the end!
To be fair the Gates Foundation has donated tens of billions $$$ to global causes over the years - so there is some good stuff to acknowledge!

The business model has gone full circle with good ole hardware & platforms being dominant assets - which is why FB and Google are both eyeing up Apple & Amazon’s platform advantage and wondering how to respond… which is why FB has instigated this massive Metaverse bet (which may or may not work out because big as they are even FB doesn’t have a physical platform to control both access of users and access of service providers aka “Apps”). FB is still smarting from Apple’s unilateral decision to issue an iOS update that shut down FB across to some user data - it was a small privacy win for consumers with Apple devices.

You have to wonder how long before the US anti trust regulators start looking closer at these companies with their market dominance and start thinking about breaking them up per Standard Oil and AT & T. Unlikely but you never know....

You have to wonder how long before the US anti trust regulators start looking closer at these companies with their market dominance and start thinking about breaking them up per Standard Oil and AT & T. Unlikely but you never know.... Microsoft are not immune and need to watch their step closely but they have several advantages over FB who are especially vulnerable right now. 1. MS has a good portfolio of business ranging from consumer to business as well as devices, software and rapidly growing cloud services. So they are not reliant on advertising like FB. 2. MS leadership is a generation ahead of FB and is older & wiser in the ways of the world. Remove all your personal views of both Gates and Zuckerberg and just imagine which one of them has a better view of the ‘real world’ and reading the political landscape. 3. Gates Foundation is a useful reminder to even the most beady-eyed regulators that MS has got some strong altruistic associations so not all the ‘evil dollars’ have gone into offshore banks accounts. And overall, whilst MS certainly has its detractors only FB has managed to achieve the spectacular multiple own goals of pissing off pretty much everyone - from users to advertisers to policy-makers to governments and privacy advocates and even its own owners. Which is why FB is feeling the heat so much right now and why it made the superficial move of changing group name to Meta as well as the new big bet of the ‘Metaverse’.
