Has anyone ever replaced (or even considered) replacing wire steering cables with an exotic eg dyneema?

Stainless wire will work harden and fail sooner or later, Dyneema would be a good choice, a Beale 38 my father owned had twin wheels and used something like spectra with a cover I think,

Has anyone ever replaced (or even considered) replacing wire steering cables with an exotic eg dyneema? Frequently considered and frequently done.
I was recently told the power boat racing association mob, whose name I obviously don't know, has just approved UHMwPE fibre lines for use in steering applications. Until now it has been saying Nope as they didn't want boats flying off into the crowd when a cable parted. It appears they now have some faith in high tech fibre options as being OK and fit for purpose.
There are many boats out there, both commercial and recreational, in all forms, using fibre in steering systems today.
