Nothing like a good exchange on the Climate fear mongering that seems to circulate, when not overtaken by the WuFlu and now Ukraine. The climate catastrophists love to demonise CO2, even calling it toxic, though it is the gas of life. They keep saying it has to be reduced but you never hear anyone of them say reduced to what? They say CO2 drives temperature rise whereas the evidence shows temperature rise drives CO2 release from the Oceans (Boyles Law at work) Interesting article here to get discussion going www.rationaloptimist.com/blog/how-global-warming-can-be-good/

They have a solution it's called ev cars and battery-powered everything, yet they forgot that you have to dig up the planet and use a lot of energy to produce the ingredients in batteries... then you got the waste disposal off said batteries. oh well they're all Legends these greenie guys. The quickest way to reduce vehicle emissions .. Improve then Make public transport free.

The quickest way to reduce vehicle emissions .. Ban shopping malls and big box stores.
When I was a youngun, earlier last month...maybe a little before that, I used to able to get 90% of my needs at the local shops 2km down the road. Now most of those shops have been rolled by big multinationals in and around biog box/shopping centres so they are now cafes which come and go with disturbing frequency, souvenir like crap, vape shops and occasionally a bakery and/or chippy.
To get just a pair of undies is now a 30-40min drive by the time you add in the traffic. To get a packet of nails is an hours drive round trip, longer on Saturdays.

Improve then Make public transport free excellent comment man ! I’m happily emitting as much as next the person and it bugs the shit out of me . I think the biggest stumbling block is just giving a fuck and ignoring the CC spin . The usual reaction to suggesting personal emissions add to the big picture of a tan coloured hauraki gulf or Marlborough sounds are quite dramatic in the extreme . the gulf , the sounds , Mercury bay , Tasman bay BOI are not what they were and getting worse , what’s the harm in admitting that we contribute to that as boaters ?

Dont really see a problem burning coal. With today technology and filtration systems should be able disperse in to the atmosphere with little pollutants. Only issue is the coal mines may contain methane which is more harmful in short term compered to carbon. i dont have a problem with nuclear ,after all its only devise to heat water to turn in to steam to drive a turbine that produces power, its just the waste. What do you do with it?

Well You can make creosote out of it , you can make red food colouring out if it ….which is really fuckin bad for you it turns out , coal tar shampoo and soap . There must be other things you can do with it , I would look to India or china for innovative and and deadly ways to use coal ash . Who’s noticed that super cheap auto smells like a coal pit ? Always wondered what it is in there that emits that pong .

The only crisis is a humankind crisis. Anyone else notice how most news is centred around fear generation.Planet warms up and cools down. We could do with a war on plastic pollution but as for the rest of it get on with living. Read 'realise you're living the dream' Horrild May 4. Picked it up in a cafe. One of the few articles worth reading!

Coal is very useful stuff, for firing boilers to produce heat for power generation, processing and general heating purposes. Also used as a reductant for various metal production processes. The "problem" is that the climate catastrophists have wrongly declared CO2 as public enemy number one, even though Water Vapour is by far the most predominant greenhouse gas. Take away CO2 and see how long you last. I worked for a German company in Australia more than 30 yrs ago, one of their key divisions was emissions treatment for coal fired boilers and metal smelters, all very conventional technology, electrostatic precipitators, bag filters and sulphuric acid plants

In terms of climate change, nuclear is by far and away the best source of energy. Somehow it doesn't get any attention. Probably because the last generation of environmental activists spent their life's efforts protesting against nuclear. It would be a rather large mea calpa if they accepted it now. I think the obvious issue is the cost of nuclear. To do it safely & properly, it costs a fortune. That, and it requires a lot of human interaction to operate, compared to a coal fired boiler where you just have a screw feed auger to shovel the coal in. I had a boss in the UK who was a nuclear engineer. He was barely competent and had a wee drinking problem. Luckily we were in the water sector, where screw ups could only make a few thousand sick, as opposed to millions. But having had to work with him, and knowing his training in nuclear has always made me a tad uncomfortable at the thought of those 'well trained professionals' that run a nuclear power plant. Esp the ones on night shift. If they were any good, surely they could get a day job...
