Who has driven the southern motorway south of Papakura and noticed the rework that is been done on the concrete sound wall, it looks to me that the original contractor did not do their "Ground Works" (sorry for the pun) most of the steel vertical columns have been supported by braces and another contractor is digging, hydro-sucking around the piles, welding in more steel and back filling with concrete. Reminds me of a process building I was working a few years where the footings had been washed away caused by leaking waste pipes under the floor, we just poured in 2 truck loads of concrete of course under supervision of the consultant. Months ago when the original contractor was drilling the holes it looked very wet obviously soft ground. it would be interesting to see if the sound wall was a "design and build" or just a build to the consultant's design. Extra cost to the taxpayer again? ??

Consultants never make mistakes. It is either the contractor being a contractor, or the client under-scoping the work. Of course, the client never fesses up to being incompetent tough...
