About 4 weeks ago #1 son wakes at about 3am to see some cretin on his verandah attempting to break in. The guy took off so son chases him down the road while wife rings police. 3 calls over next hour but despite assurances that 'police are on the way" nothing happens. Son then sets up electronic trip alarm and last Friday night 3.20 am another cretin trips it. Son follows for 20 mins while perpetrator tries neighbourhood houses for unlocked cars / windows/doors.Wife rings police (111) again and once again no police turned up despite same assurances. She was quizzed as to whether anyone in house had covid or if there were firearms in house. Go figure. So my question to the enlightened on here (and the PM and Minister of Police should they be monitoring this site)is......what should he donext time ?

A few years ago a guy living in a small eastern bay of plenty town settled himself down on his couch on a friday night after a hard day working when he noticed Tyke the Alsatian curling his lips and quietly growling while looking at the back door... so he lets him out and about ten seconds later all hell breaks loose in his garage so the guy closed the garage door and phoned the local cop. in due course the cop turned up and could hear a bit of skirmishing going on in the garage and asks who is in there with the burglar? on hearing it's tyke the cop decides its time for a roll-your-own, but part way through the smoke Tyke is obviously starting to make some good headway with the burglar who was trying to hide on the workbench so tyke was called off and the young guy was taken away (to hospital first). the property was there after given a wide berth by the lowlifes... man's best friend?

Thanks for that. So he should get an Alsatian and get a gang member to move into his neighbourhood ? Both options aren't going to happen for various reasons. Anarchy seems to be alive and well. The bimbo's option of being kind is also unlikely. Seems to me the great reset is here as she strips away the middle classes of their way of life. Watch out ,as the middle classes fight back. I for one won't give up without a fight

That is really disappointing the cops wont turn up. My honest opinion to get the cops to turn up? Lie. Say you have guns on the primises. Or, say the intruder is inside the house. Or some other white lie to get the cops to turn up, like the missus saying your partner is chasing them down the street with an offensive weapon. Cops might react if they thought you were going to actually hurt the criminal! I'd go with guns in the house line. I've got a spear-gun, so technically I'm not lieing. They asked about guns, not firearms... And I'd discourage your son from following them. There is one thing doing a good deed, but if he gets assaulted and injured it makes earning a living complicated for the short term. Where is this? like rural, urdan? small town with one cop? Middle of the big smoke?

I'd say " he has a gun" not you. But the problem with guns is the fuzz are dumb Jacindas(that's the C word substitute) and will lock down the hood until they Deem it's safe to enter, meanwhile the scum have hit the road safe in the knowledge that the fuzz will never apprehend them.... Cos the can drive fast , create risk, escape, and all cos the scums mum's hate seeing the dumb " jabcindas" hit lamposts and die!... I say let em die!

Thanks for all that. It's relatively easy to scare them off. But what is needed is to actually stop these cretins. They read these type of stories too and they know that they are 'safe' Nice policeman will likely give them a warm taxi ride to the nearest motel for homeless and sign them up for another benefit. Bloody hell.Who actually owns up to voting for this ?

Oh yeah, and I bet your son's missus sounds calm and logical when she calls the police. She needs to sound fucken hysterical! Ranting like a crazy woman. Smashes and bangs in the background. That might get some action. Assuming you son doesn't have kids or pets, your can go down the vigilante kind of route and put possum traps around the garden and along the edge of the verhanda. Not the modern ones, the old fashioned ones that can break an ankle ;-) These might be a bit small, but you can get 5 for $35. www.traps.co.nz/copy-of-traps-leg-hold-trap-ptr1021

It is sad that the public have to do the Police's job, but good on them for taking a stand, especially the guy with the machete from Kiwiblog, If the Government won’t protect you, locals will!
The Herald reports: www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/auckland-burglaries-store-owner-says-locals-who-fought-back-offenders-during-a-smash-and-grab-are-heroesThe owner of an Auckland watch shop that was targeted in an attempted daylight smash and grab says the men who fought off the thieves are heroes.
A group of men, one armed with an axe, started “attacking” the window of About Time in Remuera around 4.20pm on Monday.
The owner of the store, Rebecca Alexander, said she was at home at the time of the incident but was on the phone to her husband who was at the store.
“I heard our office manager screaming, then I heard the breaking glass and I thought ‘oh dear we’ve been done again’,” she said.
Incredible footage of other store owners and locals who took on the offenders in an effort to thwart their escape has emerged.
“We had a couple of heroes, the man from the kebab shop happened to be cutting up carrots with quite a substantial machete-type knife – he rushed out and started attacking them or the car,” said Alexander.
Co-owner of Pro Consult Stuart Hobbs also ran down and picked up a sign to defend himself, he can be seen in the footage bailing the group up behind some stairs before following them to their car where he rammed them from the passenger side.
Good on them – they are heroes.
Another man can also be seen hitting the car.
“That was the only thing I could defend myself with because these three hoods were armed with hammers and axes, so I charged them and I think they got the fright of their life actually and they started to run and I just kept running after them,” said Hobbs.
“I think you know I’ve got the right to protect my community, I think I should do that and I think that if people can get together and not put up with this sort of thing, we’re going to be a better society for it.”
If the Government can’t protect you, then your community needs to. Absolutely.
