Just heard a mate was having his cat lifted out by crane at the yard up the Weiti and the crane toppled. Do not have a lot of detail, hopefully no injuries. Cat's mast is down and structure damaged, she is heading for Gulf Harbour to be lifted. Expect more details will be forthcoming. Just reinforces the fact that you cannot be too careful with lifting activities

Is that the old Stevensons Yard? Off Poplar Lane? The crane looks old even in their website photos... Be fascinated to know how the insurance situation pans out.

Apparently it made a hell of a noise, was heard further down the river. The Weiti club yard man was called to take a spill kit up. Haven't heard any details on the cat, but apparently the launch that was damaged is a Riv.

Haven't heard any details on the cat, but apparently the launch that was damaged is a Riv. It sounds like the crane boom came down in front of the mast, pulled the mast down as it hit the forestay and came to rest on the foredeck of one hull. He has motored her around to Gulf Harbour and is waiting to be hauled out in the morning, surprisingly her AIS is still working Looks like the launch is in worse shape than the cat

Its hard to tell from that angle, but it looks as if the launch has had the back corner smashed off. Not good. A few people's Christmas cruise plans might be in disarray now. Lifting accidents are supposed to be an automatic worksafe notification. I assume the other boats on the hard can higher another crane in to get re-launched (if they can book one). Wonder how many others were booked to come out there before Christmas?

beyond the owners who are suffering directly from the incident, all of us are going to suffer when our boat insurance policies come up for a renewal, been a dreadful year for marine claims this year and we will all finish up paying!

Ouch.
GH seem to have a pretty good record (with 2 large travel lifts they should) but they did drop a runabout off their new extended forklift soon after they had opened their new dry-stack.

The cat might be a motor launch for the summer, be a long time getting a new mast fitted
