well look here, more evidence that NIWA has been fiddling the numbers to get the numbers they want thebfd.co.nz/2022/10/15/whats-going-on-at-niwa/note this post from Ranty Kiwi Well.... here's some data that I know is unmolested. Unfortunately is only runs to 2009 as that is all the data I have. It's the sea surface temperature from Auckland University's marine laboratory at Leigh. I have used their monthly mean temperatures from 1967-2009 and plotted the monthly deviation from the 40 year monthly average from 1967-2007. The individual deviations are all over the place as expected, but it's the trend line that is telling - it shows a 0.2°C drop over the period. It should be a very valid data set from a consistency point of view as it is unaffected by environmental changes such as buildings, deforestation and the like.all the meteorological organisations around the western world are in on it, why

By Mike Hosking 3 Nov, 2022 05:00 AM OPINION This weekend the charade that is COP 27 begins in Egypt. Once again carbon footprints to make your eyes water will be laid down by the increasingly virtuous and nauseating disciples of climate change, to gather for a fraught series of days in which they will expel an astonishing amount of hot air - which will ultimately lead to nothing. But they will, for a short time anyway, slap themselves on the back that all those all-nighters and last-gasp last-minute deals were of some importance. The clue that this is all a charade is in the number, as in 27. We are having COP 27 because the other 26 went nowhere. Prior to the meeting, i.e. the days in which we are right now, you get the pre-show whining about how we are going to hell in a hand cart and the pledges made so far, which allegedly keep the world temperature increase at 2.8C, are woeful, and we need to now ... before it’s too late (small note here, it’s been too late for about 50 years) to make some more pledges which get the increase below 2 per cent. We, as has been well documented of late, are leading the world in things like emission targets and taxes to meet those targets down on the farm. We are assured by our “nuclear moment” Prime Minister that by “leading the world” the world will now line up and follow us. So I’m assuming that COP 27 will be a hit as a large selection of nations, so inspired by our recent move on farmers, arrive in Cairo emboldened ready to pledge themselves into a new bright and clean tomorrow. Or, none of that will happen because we sadly are delusional, and the cold hard reality is no one gives a monkey’s what this country does, and self-interest will always win over the theorists, the likes of which run this country. It is well documented and widely accepted that we are as good as it gets when it comes to producing food. All we have done is hamper our ability to excel in the world of growing things to eat. We are also making it hard to grow things to eat, by allowing astonishing amounts of land to be sold off and planted in trees. Although they have to be the right trees, because if they are not, they become the wrong trees, which is why sequestration was yet another cock up in the overall cock-up that made up the Government’s response to the He Waka Noa report. But for the trees that are the right trees, i.e. pines, you can’t plant enough of them apparently, even though you can, and we are. And the sad reality is, the world is not one jot better off because of it. But we are losing productive land and when we lose it we don’t get it back. There is another aspect to the land conversion debate, how much of it is foreign money versus local, but either way planting trees to offset carbon is the lazy but entirely predictable way to address, or appear to address, the problem. The reason it is so popular is the carbon market, which is a Ponzi scheme if ever there was one, whereby the price is jacked up to a point where you’d be an idiot not to plant trees for credits. It sits at a bit over $80 a credit, the back up market is sold out and the prediction is the price will rise to $200 plus. And that’s before you get to the new apps like Xpansiv, which allow you to trade them, like coffee, orange or pork futures ... it’s the SkyCity of climate change.
Never has so much time, energy, money and carbon been spent and expelled on going nowhere fast. Never have we seen so much hyperbole and, if you are generous, good intention go on treading water. I’m not sure what the greater crime is, attending 27 meetings to say a lot of stuff you have no intention of doing. Or pretending the latest version is going to be any different. Either way, this country is still a full-blown paid up sucker for it all.

To call CC a ponzi scheme is a direct insult to ponzi schemes. The credits scheme as far as I can work out is just another mechanism to control land because once you sell them the land is forever non productive for food. If credits are sold then the trees have to stay unless someone is silly enough to pay back. And notice how you never hear who gets the dosh. They're still cutting down the Amazon rain forest as an example. To hell in a handcart indeed except for NZ bimbo PM and her incompetent numpty communist govt. who I understand are doing very nicely thank you on the side. Like all communist govt. members

I'm keen to clarify a few things on CC, and I don't actually know where you guys stand on this, so please advise.
1) I believe the climate is changing. In my view there is clear evidence it is changing. 2) is it man made? I really don't care. It is irrelevant. 3) We cannot change the weather.
Taking point 3, we cannot change the weather. Anyone trying to reverse climate change is pissing into the wind. It is futile. All these taxes and govt policies are a waste of time. We should be putting those resources and money into ADAPTING to climate change.
Adaption if the key. So in this context, denying it is happening is a bad and dangerous thing (that is for anyone that is a denier on here)
NZ is soooo small that anything we do will have zero effect. At best it is virtue signaling.
There is a wide number of practical and effective things we can do as a country to adapt to CC. The most blindingly obvious is water storage. Dams and reservoirs for agriculture production and drinking water supply security. More diverse and adaptive crops and agriculture products, not fuckign monoculture pine trees with zero economic value. Then, there is straight forward things like not building gazillion dollar houses on beach fronts. Planning to abandon flood prone areas. On a similar basis to red zones in Chch. Accepting that introduced pests, weeds and seaweeds are going to happen, not getting our panties twisted but just adapting to it.
The proc CC club are creating a problem by imposing taxes and getting everyone's backs up and creating deniers. In reality, we can't change the weather, the govt needs to stop fucking around pretending it can, and collectively we and the govt needs to get on with adaption.

1) I believe the climate is changing. In my view there is clear evidence it is changing. It has always been changing, eg how do you think Fjordland was formed, by glacial retreat of courseThe proc CC club are creating a problem by imposing taxes and getting everyone's backs up and creating deniers. In reality, we can't change the weather, the govt needs to stop fucking around pretending it can, and collectively we and the govt needs to get on with adaption. Read a few quotes here from the late Maurice Strong, founder of the IPCC. They have a familiar ring to them even though some were stated more than 20 yrs ago www.azquotes.com/author/14256-Maurice_Strongeg

Never mind the climate change,my concern thats fucking up the planet is the amount of waste on land and in the sea.particularly the oceans. We treat them as dumping ground.

Adaption isn’t enough. If in doubt, go visit Pakistan and try telling them how to adapt to 50% of their country being underwater. Or to sub-Saharan Africa and tell them the glaciers are going and that’s the end of rivers and fresh water.
It’s needs mitigation plus adaption.
Try reading any of the pre-COP27 reports and find any good news in them. And they are not from a single fringe / minority group with a vested interest in spreading bad news. They are from a wide group.
I’ve never been a fan of corporate windfall taxes but when we realised how bad tobacco was for the population, we started doing it. Maybe now is the time to hit the oil companies who are making record profits whilst we cruise towards a catastrophic 2.5C temp increase (not the previously agreed 1.5C).
Anyone got children who’ve started asking them “what’s the plan M&D?”…
