You'd have to be a bit thick to get close to any wild animal with young pups. But this story did originate from a country that has to put written warnings not to put power drills in your ear, or drink the acid in batteries.

was surprised by the size of the monk seal and how the victim didn't back away as fast as soon as possible, leading to multiple attacks
didn't help that the pup seemed to keep swimming to the swimmer
hope our local leopard seal doesn't find a mate up here
because a leopard seal doing that could have been much worse
