Classic little screw up. Anchor was dragging in the night, went to re-anchor, wrapped the painter for the tender around the prop. Dropped the anchor but still dragged onto rocks. Called coastguard but obviously decided to just take their tender to shore. Important lesson really. I always have a long tow on the dinghy, and shorten it up for anchoring. But after anchoring and relaxing, how organised is your boat to move in the dark of night? I normally have shit all over the cockpit. Wet wetsuits, loads of snorkel gear, some random toys for the kids etc, sunglasses, water bottles. Maybe a spear gun (tend to put that out of the way due to the spikey bit). Who is keen to do a drill? like a fire alarm drill, jump out of bed at 3am and see how long it takes you to get the motor started and the anchor up, without screwing anything up? www.rnz.co.nz/news/national/471987/family-on-boat-stuck-on-kaikoura-coast-rescued-themselves-coastguard

According to RNZ heading the boat was at fault.... Pathetic Woke headline Have to agree. I saw 2 headlines and though 'more dipshits get rescued' only to find out they were far from dipshits as they did rescue themselves.
So the dipshits were only the media, who could have seen that coming.
