Best builder... Timber cruise boats? Dunno, that's a tough one, some who come to mind as being notable in no particular order are Barry Jones Phil Wilson Kerry Alexander Graeme Donald Grant Mitchell John Raea (more race boats but Fusio is a masterpiece of boat building)

1) I still recon the person who had the most influence on NZ sailing was Jim Cook. He literal put New Zealand on the map.

Jim young has been mentioned already but I will add this boat cause it was built by a kiwi in the south of England . They didn’t have keel boats that planed back then in the UK and it caused a right shit storm . Camp Freddie , rocket 8.4 Attachments:

one of my favorites, Ceramco NZ, Farr Design 90 I am biased of course, CZ is design 92 and has the same clipper bow profile. Crying shame Blake was too arrogant to listen to advice from the Outward Bound and Flyer guys to get the rigging modified before the race start.

This is my favourite boat so probably my favourite designer I guess . Whichway , Davidson 52 always admired the "Rolling Stones" series by Davidson from when Woody first launched Honky Tonk Woman. I did the 2005 Suva race on Paradigm (a more cruisy D55) with amongst others Cam & Steve from Hard Labour, we encountered Whichaway south of Kandavu and boat for boat raced her all the way into Suva, about 80 NM - she could not pull away from us and we could not quite sail over the top of her.

Wasn't Camp Freddie a Rocket 31,sister to Positive Touch ? Yeah , right you are . It has a sistership built by the same kiwi boatbuilder that was called viva zapata . That boat is now in the Netherlands and has just had an extensive refit by an expat kiwi and looks spectacular . You can find his thread on the rebuild on sailing anarchy here forums.sailinganarchy.com/threads/young-and-full-of-promise.211505/better quality pic of camp Freddie Attachments:
