haha, I'm loving the Wellington city council shenanagins. They've installed bi-lingual parking meters that speak Te Reo. Phew! Thank goodness for that! www.kiwiblog.co.nz/2024/01/no_wonder_wcc_ha_son_money_for_pipes.html#commentsThey're only just avoiding water restrictions because nigh on half of the water leaks out before it gets to the destination. But oh how we need Te Reo speaking parking meters... And after unanimiously agreeing to fund the town hall rebuild another $1/2 billion, Tory Whanua is now walking that back and saying they might even need to cancel the town hall to fix the water pipes. Can they even spell P.L.A.N.I.N.G? No wonder the Local Govt act requires Councils to produce a long term plan, by law.

Just reading how Rip Curl dropped one of the most inspiration poster girls of surfing, Bethany Hamilton, and replaced her man. Not sure how long ago it was, but 15 or so years she (Bethany that is, not the man they replaced her with) had her arm bitten off by a tiger shark. Once she recovered (a month later!!!) she learned how to surf with just one arm which is quite amazing. Of course she still rips. She's now a mum and has been quite outspoken about men in womens surf comps. This is a company that basically uses women in skimpy bikini's and the like to sell their brand (as do all surf companies) and they chuck a fucking bloke in there instead of a girl. It hasn't gone well for them. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bethany_Hamilton

ADHD in a majority of cases is a call for attention imo. Had 3 children at scouts whose parents advised of the issues. Hmm went on camps, achieved badges,no behaviour issues. All they needed was a little discipline and soon learnt behave or miss out. After 6 months 1 of parents admitted a change in attitude and asked us leaders what we were differently. Involve your child.Dont feed him on the junk you provide for camp food.(confiscated and shared amongst others)They are not an object you bring out when it suits you. Funny thing that child never returned following yr.

Best article I’ve read on Gen Z and parenting for ages: Touchy-feely parenting has created the most helpless generation ever mol.im/a/13120983Too bloody right. The amount of crap me and the Wa got for letting the kids runaround inn the mud and crap while just in their undies, was huge. The amusing part is these days our kids don't get crook where the sanitised kids of those who bitched at us come down with shit every second week.
Yes I remind them often, not that I like doing that............... na, I love it

Guessing here. If you have lay about parent/s that reflects on your off spring. Install the values of get out bed,breakfast/dressed for school/being punctual that will reflect on work environment attitude. Well seems to of worked in our household. Yeah not a believer in woke/pc brigade. " listen here, get up,get ready or we are leaving you behind".Only have to do that a couple of time and they soon learn youre serious. And does no harm to say NO.When young people start squirming, mean daddy etc

More the exponential rise in self-diagnosed mental health issues amongst youngsters which they are using as an excuse for inactivity and side-stepping personal responsibility.
Yes mental health problems do exist - and those absolutely need treating when correctly diagnosed - but the proliferation in ‘anxious’ or ‘depressed’ kids fuelled from social media and peer pressure cannot be right.
They use covid and missing school as one of the causes.
Well how come children growing up through other dramas affecting whole populations - like WW2 for example - seemed to turn out the opposite ie it made them harder not softer?

Unemployed in NZ. Too many relying on Welfare to find or make an interview. Young or Old. Drive/bus to any industrial area and door knock.Employers respect the effort you put in knocking and may say no but do know someone who might have a vancancy. Might not be your first choice of a job but once employed its easier to find work the suits you.
Depressed/mental issues should be picked up at school and need to be reported back to parents.Yes there are genuine cases around but you have stated.Easier to blame Covid but those who want to succeed will no matter the circumstances.
WW1,WW2 countries were in depression state but also, here in NZ,farms were set up and employment around rebuilding etc. Back then you had to work/study as no welfare to fall back on.At one stage.NZ had a unemployed rate of 6 according to old boy.1940/1950
Today we so many benefits to fall back on. The lady across the road pisses me off, unsure how many children.Different fathers best guess. They mixed races. As soon as they reach school age she gets pregnant again. And whats worst just had 6 weeks in USA paid for by?? And her mother left to look after the children.Maybe 5 that I have seen. Living in a bloody nise state house that if private would be a $650 pw home.

The most innovative job-hunting effort I ever saw was a kid at my college who printed off a mini version of his CV and put a folded copy under the windscreen wiper of every high-end car parked in the poshest neighbourhoods. Eventually the numbers paid off and an executive read it, called him and he got his first opening.
