You may know the answer HT. Not so long ago we had such a truck driver shortage that companies were offering to pay for your driver training and licence testing just to fill driver vacancies. Used annoy me seeing young guys in their 20s walking the streets obviously unemployed, when you saw what was available to them. Is this still the case.

No is the short answer. But yes for experienced drivers. Too many want to sit behind the wheel and actually get out and help the customer, wont start before 4.00am and want to be finished by 4.00pm. I start most days at Midnight or 00.30 finish midday or 1300.00 got to load and unload, deliver to customer but not expect to off load plt but we do.Frustrating watching young females(who are quicker than males) and young males(its too heavy)range from 25kg to 1kg Still good $$ being paid for right staff. Warehouse staff are in short supply now, ours do a 5.5 day week.Lucky if they turn up for 4 days. It interfers with our family benefit.Bugger me. We got nil when our boys growing up and its not that long ago

The most innovative job-hunting effort I ever saw was a kid at my college who printed off a mini version of his CV and put a folded copy under the windscreen wiper of every high-end car parked in the poshest neighbourhoods. Eventually the numbers paid off and an executive read it, called him and he got his first opening. I've employed a few purely as they had the balls and drive to rock on up and sell themselves to me totally out of the blue. Having the gumption to do that generally trumps a bag full of qualifications.

Labour increased sick days to 10 per yr. Funny how some staff use them up asap yet I still have 20 days about to get another 10 days but max we can save is 20.
Is it just me or do others feel guilty ringing the boss for a sickie? Will be using 2 next week and yes its genuine. Even prewarned the boss.

If that is the quality of advice our Ministers are receiving, no wonder they make such hopeless decisions.

Just to add to the above, quote from KiwiBlog Incidentally for those who like their history, Hone Hone cut down the flagpole to protest the Government’s new tax on various products, including tobacco which was one shilling per pound! And Hone was the first signatory to the Treaty!
Heke’s rebellion was successful in getting the Government to repeal the tax on tobacco, and instead introduce property rates.
So for the Ministry of Health to state as an uncontested fact that the Treaty entrenches the right for Maori to be smoke free, is not just wrong, but historically illiterate.

Head of the Anti-Extremist Centre at Vitoria University, directly funded by the Office of the Prime Minister, makes extremist comments about the govt. Whowouldathunk? In a post on X, responding to the government's military boot camp policy, she questioned if it was a "death cult" that "hates children". The Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet (DPMC) has warned Victoria University that the comments "may bring the centre into disrepute". Professor Joanna Kidman heads up the publicly-funded but independent anti-extremism centre, which was set up after the mosque shootings and is funded by the Department of Prime Minister through a charitable trust. www.rnz.co.nz/news/political/511020/victoria-university-professor-spoken-to-about-anti-government-social-media-post

Did we mention the Hurricanes Ladies rugby team getting politically active? Did a pre game war dance that called the govt rednecks and a few other insults.
Not sure why professional sports teams see the need to be politically active. Can see plenty of blow-back for their sponsors.

When the fairy princess hired her a few years ago even bomber bradbury did an article to say how stupid it was to have an extremist like her, in a position like that.

Not sure why professional sports teams see the need to be politically active. Can see plenty of blow-back for their sponsors. ha, was going to put something about that up. Bunch of farking loons. Wellingtonians would do the country a favour if the left they their shit hole city a bit more often rather than hanging out with their vegan mates telling each other how amazing Rawiri and Chloe are. Funnily enough they're bottom of the table and regularly cop a hiding most weekends. Maybe try sticking to catching the ball instead of implying half the population are redneck racists. Hurricanes mgmt quickly covering their arses given they were actually told about it. (albeit very last minute). Devlin has a word or two to say on it, skip to about two mins in. theplatform.kiwi/podcasts/episode/martin-devlin-its-only-sport-best-of-march-6-2024'They should be stood down for a week, this is an employment contract issue, they have bought their franchise and the game into disrepute and there should be a consequence. Their behaviour is so self entitled and damaging I think that a weeks suspension would be entirely appropriate. It won't happen. The women involved, lets get this clear, are only playing professional rugby because it is entirely 100% subsidised. Their jobs are a privilege, they're not a right. Their entitlement is insulting. I want to play rugby for a job and therefore somebody should pay for it. There needs to be a big wakeup broom swept through this sport. You don't have an audience, you have no spectators, you have no commercial sponsors, you earn no money, you have no sky tv viewers. That's the truth, and now probably because of these actions you have even less of all of those. If there is one good thing to come out of all of this it is that it will now end the idea of NZ professional athletes using their privileged position to protest. In this case we'll get back to playing rugby, which is also not using your professional platform to espouse radical, separatist, racist ideology'.

"Professor Joanna Kidman – Professor of Māori Education, Victoria University of Wellington (VUW). Joanna is a sociologist with affiliations to Ngāti Maniapoto and Ngāti Raukawa. Joanna’s work spans indigenous sociology, Māori youth, higher education, decolonisation studies and comparative education.
Joanna has been appointed for a three-year term."Professor Joanne Kidman may scream in rage that I’ve reminded everyone what her brittle thresholds for hate crimes are just as she gets her large dollop of creamy public money to investigate extremism, but I would calmly retort that Professor Joanne Kidman is getting the exact same zero benefit of the doubt that she as a woke crusader gave Trelise Cooper.
If the good Professor Joanne Kidman doesn’t like the taste of her own medicine, perhaps that’s a teachable moment?
Anything coming out of this extremism research centre must be challenged. thedailyblog.co.nz/2022/06/04/ummmm-isnt-professor-joanne-kidman-the-worst-person-to-appoint-to-an-extremism-taskforce/thedailyblog.co.nz/2022/06/09/why-professor-kidmans-appointment-to-an-academy-of-extremism-is-so-problematic/You might have heard of Prof Kidman. She is a vocal campaigner against what she calls messages of “hate” and regularly attacks people online for daring to have controversial or conservative views. She’s even thrown many an ‘extremist’ barb at your humble Free Speech Union because of our work on promoting academic freedom and free speech at universities. just the start of a propaganda arm that will select Government-backed “experts” to stand on the news telling us why it’s “safer” to restrict speech, all in the name of “social cohesion”. This is straight out of Orwell’s Ministry of Truth.Prof Kidman was one of the signatures on the open letter that attacked the Listener 7 – the academics who penned the “In Defence of Science” piece which claimed that while indigenous knowledge (Mātauranga Māori) is important it “falls far short of what can be defined as science itself”.familyfirst.org.nz/2022/06/13/governments-new-centre-to-control-kiwis-speech/

Funding for this FY is $1.34 million...
In a statement from the Act Party last night, public service spokesman Todd Stephenson said: “The irony of an anti-extremism campaigner using such extreme rhetoric should be obvious”.
“While Act supports her right to spew deranged garbage as a private citizen, she shouldn’t be doing it on the taxpayer dollar and certainly not with the borrowed credibility of the Prime Minister’s Department.
“Kidman’s salary is paid by taxpayers via the Prime Minister’s Department, which means Christopher Luxon has just been delivered some potential savings on a silver platter. The board of the centre must move immediately to sack the extremist in their midst,” Stephenson said.
