We had a punter after a new chain as his 10yo one has gone evil. In sussing which one he needed he sent me the invoice dated February 2012.
10mm G30 HDG Eyetellian made short link chain we sold him for 15.13 p/m + gst. Tomorrow he's getting the same again and after todays price re-working (something that's now near a daily occurrence) he is being charged 17.84 p/m + gst.
So after 10 years and in the middle of a world wide steel and shipping cluster fornication the price has only increased 17.7%. We were a little surprised to see that. The vast majority of that increase is the shipping costs, what was 4K 2 years ago was 13K yesterday. Raw steel at the moment is also not helping but it's coming back fast which is good. That same chain was around $3.50 a m higher a month ago.
Approx a month ago I enquired about a new chain for a local wannabe superboat (it's only a big fizz nasty you tiny penised fellow) and on the Tuesday Italy told me 17.5 euro a m but hold fire due to wobbling steel prices. On Thursday, 2 days later, the price went to 12 Euro a m.
Chatting to our Germans about some SS, they make the ducks knuts of SS chains, for some 13mm for a pile of ferries in build we are supplying in Singapore, the ugly as (the biggest lie I've used this year) german chick I deal with she gave me a quote for it and very bolding thru the middle it had 'Quote valid for 48hrs only'.
It is currently a crazy arsed world that is not making my life as easy.

Paid $1500 for my Philips K9 24" in the eighties.
Pay $500 for a million inch HD zillion Pixel TV today ..
Back in the eighties the market was thousands of units... Now its billions of units...
Pity the same Vol v price model doesn't work with phones, electricity, rates and Taxes..

2012 a very small wastewater pumping station cost about $150k installed & commissioned.
Current price for effectively the same thing is a tad under $700k.
I chocked.
The pumps are only $10k each. exact same pumps as 2012.
At the risk of thread drift, we have to do mana whenua management plans when building any civil infrastructure now, which we didn't need to 10 yrs ago.

CZ came with alot of her original build documentation. In the files was a quote from Jimmy Mudguard for a full set of sails circa 1982
Main ~ 50 m2
Genoas 1,2,3, and working jib
2 Spinnakers
Storm jib and trysail
all for the princely sum of $10,000
but then thinking about it you could buy a standard 3 bedroom home in the likes of Glenfield for about $20k at that time

I did a impulse but 3 weeks ago, Panasonic 43" for $395. It's easy to see why the world has a growing waste problem.
