Auckland Central MP Chlöe Swarbrick says other businesses in the Super City aren't being held to the same standard as The White Lady, which is at risk of being shut down. The iconic food truck has been operating on the streets of Auckland's CBD for the past 74 years. In April, Auckland Council reduced its annual licence to six weeks following complaints from a nearby business regarding rubbish and blocked footpaths. And now The White Lady has 23 days until its licence expires. Swarbrick told Newshub staff have been "bending over backwards" since its licence was reduced, which is "way above and beyond anything we see or even tend to expect from the likes of multinationals like Maccas, just around the corner"."They [do a] circle of the food truck every half hour to pick up rubbish," she said."They are going above and beyond."The Green Party MP said larger fast food chains like McDonald's aren't held to the same standard and made responsible for the rubbish their customers scatter across the streets.www.newshub.co.nz/home/new-zealand/2022/09/auckland-central-mp-chl-e-swarbrick-questions-why-mcdonald-s-not-held-to-same-standard-as-the-white-lady-amid-council-shutdown-threats.htmllefties - having given up on getting their 'people' to improve, they write laws to make business clean up the ever-growing mess they leave behind

Auckland's City Rail Link is set to blow out its $4.5 billion budget, with officials unsure just how much the country's largest infrastructure project will cost. But the construction timeline may yet still be delayed and the cost to the taxpayers will exceed its $4.5 billion budget.Transport Minister Michael Wood said it was still too early to know what the final cost will be.CRL chief executive Dr Sean Sweeney said it was "a wide number" and did not want to share that with the public,www.1news.co.nz/2022/09/07/city-rail-link-officials-unsure-of-cost-of-budget-breaking-project/

The safe rule of thumb is to double it and add 30%. That will be closer to the true outturn cost. They always give a low number to get it over the line, regardless of what the Engineers say it will cost. Once it is over the line, they've got the ratepayer by the balls. That, and they usually retire and move to a cushy number in Ireland or Tuvalau. Same with how long it takes to do a haulout job on the boat. Double your estimate and add six weeks (this is surprisingly accurate for us...) PS, my company wont let me do large project cost estimates anymore. Apparently my accuracy makes everyone else looks bad...

The council has 11,000 full-time equivalent employees. That is more than 1% of the Auckland workforce.
What these wonderful individuals do is beyond me but given that the council spent $109m on consultants and professional services, and a further $269m on outsourced works and services, there are grounds to question their productivity.
The city has a clear choice. Efeso Collins’ priorities are climate change, light rail and free local transport. He represents continuity with Phil Goff’s administration, and given his backing by both Labour and the Greens, should have a better relationship with Wellington than his more abrasive opponent.
Wayne Brown will take Auckland in a very different direction. What makes his candidacy exciting or alarming, depending on your perspective, is that he just might have the ability, experience and the determination to turn his policies into reality.

The way it works is that staff tell the dopey pollies (few exceptions who are always in the minority) what they want to hear, get the project committed and underway .Get the project passed the point of no return and then reveal the budget blowout which was the actual cost from day one.Had they revealed this then the project would never have got off the ground. Staff pride themselves in this deception and now the pollies (the bimbo & co) join in enthusiastically.

Now that Beck has withdrawn from the race for AK mayor, the way is clear for a contest between "control costs" brown and "blow-out costs Collins"

Now that Beck has withdrawn from the race for AK mayor, the way is clear for a contest between "control costs" brown and "blow-out costs Collins" Craig Lord is still running, so there will be a vote splitting factor there. He is my preference but he does not have the visibility Brown would be far preferable to Collins but he is still too close with Labour in my view

The problem with local and govt elections is that you can vote a Mayor/primeminister in but unless you are are dictator you have to get your ideas past the rest of council/mp representatives. one voice/vote on matters doesnt change things when the rest of the board/govt members disagree. If Puten was in a democratic society would he be invading Ukraine??

Yeah and look what happened in Tauranga with a dictator Mayor. The dictator in Wellington installed 4 commissars. NZ will have a new national anthem. God help NZ if Collins gets in. Luckily most of those who would benefit from 'free' buses don't vote. Too lazy
