I do know a HFO and no these guys are not warrented and believe they dont have to be,for them to board/check catches etc they must onboard a warrented officer whether that be a paid mpi staff or a volunteer hfo,
That's how I understand it as well HT. Dad did it years ago (30 years ago), but got sick of the fact he couldn't do anything if someone had undersize catch, and that he got abused so gave it up after a couple of years. On the customary rights, I believe anyone can use it, doesn't matter if you're honky/Maori/whatever. Or at least that's how it used to be, dad used it a few times but that was also years ago. Think HFO can issue warnings but not fines and Yes looked at becoming one,but think there is a risk today with some offenders,by the time a cop arrived they would be well gone. Why have HFO when I could pay a annual fishing licence and employ fulltime officers.Yeah Yeah its birth right to fish, heard all the crap before and its not our birth right in fact we dont even have the right to fish, according to scott macindoe of Legasea, its more of allowing. legasea.co.nz/2022/09/22/legasea-response-to-the-fisheries-amendment-bill-2022/Anyone can apply for a customary permit but dont like my chances though

Fuck off dick head. Race has nothing to do with it. More than 220 warranted honorary fishery officers work around New Zealand. Each year they do about 27,000 inspections and catch more than 1000 amateur fishers breaking the law. That's "volunteers" for you fish. They are warranted and have legal authority to act under the legislation. I don't know if these guys in the boat are warranted volunteers, or they are still in training working towards it. But good on these three guys in a boat doing their bit. and why you have to bring your special brand of toxicity along. I don't have any time for it, Yep me neither. I enjoy a robust debate as much as anyone but can do without the endless toxic trolling. I was reluctant to block him but now I am quite glad I did.

In Duckmaster world, with race based law enforcement, anything is possible. Fuck off dick head. Race has nothing to do with it. More than 220 warranted honorary fishery officers work around New Zealand. Each year they do about 27,000 inspections and catch more than 1000 amateur fishers breaking the law. For everyone else that is sick of Duckmaster's toxicity and trolling, to block him: Simply click on his name, go to the cogwheel icon top right and click 'block user'. Will be the best 3 seconds you could spend on this forum.

Herald article today. They found 1sqm in port Abercrombie.
Worried about boats flouting the rules …… but also say it covers 100s of hectares in the gulf and that masses of it wash up on the beaches.
So let’s see. A few boats were observed anchored where they shouldn’t, tonnes of it washes up naturally and we can of course assume is being moved by currents and boats are the problem???

I think it is safe to assume that it is because there is no gravy train to hop on if natural things like currents are responsible. However if they blame boaties there are masses of funding available for "education", patrols, vessels, expensive lunches, signs, advertising...... Its a bloody rort and we pay the price.

my random observations whilst at Gt Barrier were the majority of breaches of the rule were by the locals with all their cray pots. I observed only 2 boats anchored in the no go areas during my time there, when we went fishing around the Broken Islands it was almost deserted.

We've been making a few mooring lately, gruntier then the usual temp ones we do many of this time of the year. Just found out many are going into bays with the weed to circumvent the no anchoring rules.

Just found out many are going into bays with the weed to circumvent the no anchoring rules. Reading between the lines I’m guessing they are for the gated communities inside that area . Interesting that cause I’m of the understanding there’s no more new moorings to be had in the BOI ? But then I guess if you know some people and have plenty of folding anything is possible .
