After Caulerpa was found at Kawau in July the group realised it needed to do another survey, O’Connell said. ” We believe currents are one of the biggest vectors, along with boats and fishing gear.” Yes we can stop anchoring/fishing but stopping mother nature and his/her tides? Look hard enough it will be in around the entire gulf.

There’s a travelling Hui going on next week ? In Northland , Tamaki , Hauraki . Apparently there are American speakers/experts who’ve had “success” eradicating it . I think it’s a few years too late to economically and realistically eradicate it .

So we stop anchoring or fishing, but lets get real, there is no way that they are the dominant spread vectors. Given the areas covered it has clearly been here for awhile, I get that people say oh it went from Gt Barrier to the BOI due to boats, but really? It got to Gt Barrier how? Most likely dumped out of a ship ballast? Ships go to BOI called cruise liners, Cruise liners go past Gt Barrier, currents flow everywhere.........
I get that we may be able to slow the spread, marginally, but unless they are seriously going to eradicate it (fanworm anyone?) what is the point.

With global sea temps going ‘off the charts’ maybe there are much bigger forces in play and it’s nothing to do with boating activities.

As oceans warm to 20c they are unable to absorb carbon dioxide to produce oxygen that we need, plankton is another oxygen producer and food for whales etc
In NZ snapper need 18c to spawn but 20c sees them going further south in search of cooler water. Firth of Thames we had a high of 24c (March)in 30m so maybe this white milky flesh we are seeing is the start of snapper cooking?
The question is How do we cool the oceans?? is it cc by man or a natural cycle.

The problem I see is the CC industry is so large it will take precedence, it has to being so embedded in the worlds economy now, so if it is a natural cycle we will not be given a chance to see it run it's course before all manner of stuff happens/is forced on us, rightly or wrongly.
I remember Dad and his mates bitching the mid 20's degrees water temp out by Rakino was not helping the fishing. He's been dead for just on 30 years.

Its not the water temp that is cooking the snapper, it's your 1kW Sonar transducer, along with the ClearVu, Downscan, Sidescan, Forward Scan HDMI picture quality that's cooking them. It's like a microwave oven beaming straight onto your catch.

It's like a microwave oven beaming straight onto your catch. My scanner does bugger all show fish catch nil,show no fish and catch fish. What I believe is the problem with milky flesh is we have had so much fresh water that its entered their food chain.Dont get around the mussel farms or 40m+ mark.Funny how its a east coast thing. But yes have had 1 or 2 in previous yrs when fishing the shallows of Mahurangi/Kawau/Rakino soft but edible.Then again I dont fillet fish same day,leave in fridge or ice for next day.firms up flesh. Gut only.

A few of us from Whitianga go over and fish the mussel farms on an old trawler and we get the odd milky flesh snapper, so not sure you are correct there HT
