Reduce all to 80kph,no problem as there is no police to police it. 80 might mean we will actually travel at 100,unlike now 100 and doing 120.
Funny part is the 2 110 zones most seem to do 100.

Anyone else thought about the timing of this, seems to be useful distraction from the plan to turn New Zealand into Mahutaville

I have always been surprised at the lack of traffic police in the UK . We do a lot of long distance driving when there and I don’t recall ever seeing someone pulled over . The speed limits are quite high and many people absolutely fang it on the motorways , 150kph + is common sorta similar to the amount folk that do 120 here . Having said that they are pretty good drivers in general

Having said that they are pretty good drivers in general the Poms certainly go for it on the motorways, but generally with the English politeness. When I was working in Vancouver I did alot of motorcycle touring around British Columbia and they also go for it, 20-30kmh above posted limits and very few cops around.

The speed limits are quite high and many people absolutely fang it on the motorways , 150kph + is common sorta similar to the amount folk that do 120 here . Having said that they are pretty good drivers in general I remember an incident when I was driving around the M25. Was in a line of 3 cars, doing 100 (miles per hour). i.e. 160 km/hr. A police car was coming up behind with its lights & siren on. So all 3 cars pulled into the middle lane (from the outside lane) and dropped back to the stated limit of 60. The police car bombed past us like we were standing still... Bear in mind that UK roads are a work of art (as viewed by an infrastructure engineer). Our good state highways would struggle to meet the standards of an 'A' road over there. The vast majority of our state highways, particularly in the regions, would be 'B' roads. On their motorway system, they have onramps you can safely do 60 miles / 100kms on, their radius are huge, and they are well chambered. In NZ, we have onramps with turns so tight you'd spin out at 40 km /hr in the wet... I think there is a general acceptance that fast roads allow people to get places sooner, meaning increased economic productivity. The net revenue from speed camera's does not offset the increased economic revenue of getting places quicker. It is a concept NZ should really think about. That, and the biggest risk on UK motorways is rear-ending someone when the traffic suddenly tails back. It was very normal when slowing to have cars fly past your wing mirror on the central median strip or hard shoulder. Rather than jam on the anchors and spin, they'ed go for any empty gap and try to slow down safely... Fucking hilarious if you drive a company car and don't have to pay the insurance premium. So cops on the side of the road create a distraction and cause more accidents. Which reminds me. My first company car lasted 27 hrs and 86 miles. Wrote it off. And the best thing? the fleet contract agreement meant I had to be supplied a replacement within 2 hrs! it was like ram raiding in NZ, zero consequences. The boss did give me a rather offensive special award at the Christmas party though...

They are determined to slow NZ down in every sense.
We are on the way to becoming the land that time forgot - and not in a good way.
There was a time in the last decade when it looked we might have ‘got the memo’ and decided we wanted to become a global & relevant player and an attractive place to live for both young & old.
But the list of new reasons to dislike NZ are growing by the day - literally.

As someone who does at least 400km of SH1 a week I can say if I can sit at or even close to 100kph it's a pretty rare occasion or the PM has put the country into home detention. Note here I am specifically excluding where the signs say speed up to at least 120kph, you'll know the signs they say 'Passing Lane, stay left'.
The reason so many die on our roads is impatience and lack of skill. I also predict a rise due to the shit state the roads are in.
If any one has young kids tell them when they grow up start a roading business and contract to the Govt. Easier money than being a bank. If I was a roading contractor in NZ and people asked what I do I'd say I hunt kittens to feed to Pitbulls, I'd be too embarrassed to them anyone the truth.

Police are another tool in the revenue producing kit. Helps them fill in their day too. Son has had 2 intruders on his property over a 3 week period.. Dialled 111.Operator asks if there is covid or firearms in the house 3am. Still awaiting police response. Go figure the priorities they talk about

Fulton Hogan maintains the gravels in our district . They grade the roads with a new huge Volvo grader , a mate who has a mate in FH reckons it’s way too big for the job but FH happily charge the going rate for a multimillion dollar machine when a smaller one would be more suitable . Oh and it’s a local council issue , doubt the Govt is keeping an eye on our mountain goat track camber .
