We are at a crucial point in New Zealand’s history. Daylight robbery and ram raids have become a daily occurence and our health system is struggling with long waiting lists due to mismanagement and underinvestment. Not only has the government spent $500 million on a botched up health reform without any consultation with stakeholders and frontline healthcare workers, another $200 million has been spent on centralisation of tertiary education, with $350 million on its way to being spent on TVNZ & RNZ merger. Our housing crisis is one of the worst in the world, and in the last 5 years the government has only built 1,400 KiwiBuild homes out of the 100,000 promised. Compared to 2017, there are 21,000 more people on the emergency housing waiting list, with many families sleeping in cars. Whether it’s healthcare, hospitality, teaching, aged-care, farming or retail, workforce shortages across different sectors along with unchecked crime is driving businesses and organisations to close.
New Zealanders need to feel safe again walking the streets or going to the mall in the weekend. We need to be able to access health services in a timely manner both in the community and in hospitals. We need affordable housing and better public transport. We need our kids and adults to have the best mental health support system so we can tackle our high suicide rates. Throwing money at the problem won’t solve the issues by themselves. Good policy along with wide stakeholder engagement is necessary to make sure that outcomes are not just promised but also delivered in a timely manner.
We need a change. A change from the large parties with big mandates who have failed to deliver and failed to listen to the grassroots voice on many issues - from health and education reforms to three waters, immigration and workforce development. We are at a point where we need to leave our ideological echo chambers behind and focus on addressing the core issues plaguing New Zealand by putting country before party. We have Momentum >>
