The stuffed link below has footage of a fizz nasty getting nailed on the Raglan bar at Manu Bay. 3 people injured, one seriously. Some extremely blunt comments from the Head of Surf Life Saving NZ. As close as you can get to saying "fucking Idiots" in the MSM without actually saying it. “Surf lifeguards simply are not, nor have they ever been resourced to be a substitute for the public’s common sense." I've never crossed a West Coast bar, but I always thought the problem was coming back in. The waves looked a tad too step for heading out, hence the fuck-up, so I don't really know how they thought they'd get back in. That, and judging by the sea state, going out for a fish in that would have been like masturbating with a cheese greater. www.stuff.co.nz/waikato-times/news/300762447/three-men-incredibly-lucky-after-boat-capsized-near-raglan

That’s not even the bar . Manu bay is out on the point and gets the smallest surf and has a dodgy boat ramp at the best of times ….similar to takapuna in surge but tenfold .
That is a big day , like I said manu bay is inside the point and adjacent to the bar , the bar itself would’ve 3-4 X bigger than that so it was an extreme day to go boating .
The helm has never surfed by the looks he went straight at the biggest steepest part of the wave at full jandal

Check the article that stuff decided to run as a novelty on rogue waves . This picture is an artists impression of a rogue wave with a real ship in the foreground . Bloody media playing sensationalism like they do with great white sightings . Attachments:

It's where you launch when you don't want to go over the bar. That's some pretty shocking boat handling any way you look at it at many points of the voyage. manu bay south of the cross hairs here Attachments:

That might have been me that said it was the Raglan bar, apologies for the error. Either way, it looked like they went for the steepest part of the wave, got massive air, came down vertical and backwards, submerged the motors and flooded the cockpit. Most likely the serious injury was done falling backwards from the front of the cockpit and slaming the back across something solid. I'm suspecting the serious injury is a back injury.

Cant find it but saw a boating and fishing death chart yesterday for NZ . It was a safety message for holiday boating and basically said the white males in powerboats followed by Pacifika males are overrepresented in boating deaths . Asian men lead the stakes in shore based fishing deaths .
The above video reinforces the white male approach to tinny fishing . Hamilton has a very large tinny fleet and some very large tinnies and plenty of cashed up white blokes …I think DP can verify that .

It gets even better. Apparently the boat was borrowed... And surfers at the ramp told them not to go out. What is a boat like that worth? Extreme 645 Game King? $250,000? Stuff understands that the vessel, an Extreme Boats 645 Game King, had been borrowed by the skipper on the day of the incident. On board were three men who were all wearing lifejackets. One of the men was transported to Waikato hospital with serious injuries and has subsequently been discharged. www.stuff.co.nz/national/300762941/surfers-warned-skipper-not-to-launch-boat-before-it-capsized-at-manu-bay

Oh crap . Immediate thought is will the insurers pay out ? I expect the insurers would ask some questions before paying out. Wonder if it was 'borrowed' with prior approval, or if the skipper is an acquaintance of the owner and 'borrowed' it while the owner was away. Who would own a boat like that AND loan it out? I don't even like loaning my chainsaw, and its not worth nearly as much as that boat. And if you did loan it out, wouldn't you ask some really basic questions around where are you going and what are you going to do with it?
