View AttachmentHeres a drone shot taken last week on my way back to Tauranga at the end of a 29 day cruise to Whangaroa and back. Mayor Island in the background. Suprisingly hard to land a drone on a moving boat especially when solo! That's a cool photo with the sun sparkling, nice work.
What sort of drone?
I got one but didn't realise about wind speeds. Sent it up, got over a ridge, wind got it and it just couldn't make headway back home. Last seen heading to Whangarei. Bugger!!
Its quite neat seeing another perspective aye. Notice the two swell directions? Its just a Mini SE 2. I bought it mainly for the farm originally. I can walk 50m up the hill behind the house and fly the whole farm from the one spot (560ha). Great for checking stock, water tanks, troughs, wild deer etc. Once over 100m high the drone is often in very different wind conditions than on the surface. You probably know more than me with flying planes but I think the wind can almost double at that height. Usually ok to fly up to about 30km/hr winds. After that the drone starts working hard.

Heading north towards Kawau for the first time in weeks and I notice that one of the yellow degaussing buoys (this time the E one) has gone missing. Did someone hit it? I haven’t heard any notices about it but then I haven’t been tuned into every martine update recently.

The Harbour Master probably would forget to issue a NtM if the harbour was closed due to a giant Rena sized shipwreck sideways across the Rangi Channel. The key navigational markers up the Weiti River were taken out during the Auckland floods and they didn't issue a NtM. However they did issue a NtM saying there were trees down way up the river upstream of Stillwater. I assumed they didn't know the key nav markers had been destroyed so phoned them. They knew. When I suggested they issue a NtM the HM though that was a great idea and he'd get straight onto it (two months after the damage occurred...)

Yes when I first arrived in NZ I recall being shocked at the number of extinguished lights and the duration they went interested - months or even longer. I’m still astonished they are allowed to get away with it.

Great stuff. Did you have any issues going into Parenrenga? I heard about an overseas cruising motorboat attempting to visit there late February receiving a distinctly hostile reception from the natives

Nope. Went left once inside. Saw no one. Some of the boys went into town for a wander. No issues.

I am not jealous of anything, at all... That tender, Jesus, looks handy. What is it, jet powered, and with nav / sonar / fish finder on board? Come to think of it, my tender has a sonar / fish finder on board, but the fish finder is a bottom of the line Lowrance that was about $100 on trademe, and instead of a jet unit I've got a 2hp Yamaha. I can catch my quota with 1 - 2l of petrol, but wake boarding is entirely out of the question...

Yes jet powered Williams tender.
Has furuno mfd on it.
Was really good depth on the way in and it lined up pretty well with my navionics sonar charts.
