Try pronouncing welsh road signs if you ever go there Working out those place names was like a game, no, it was a sport. Clandidno was my favourite. Once you worked out a ll had kind of guteral ch sound it was far easier. But to be fair, the Welsh hate the English, so putting up signs to confuse them and get them completely lost was just a national honour.

Llandidno, just up the road from Llanfairfechan (Clan-fair-feckan)
To be fair (or not fair) they are talking about keeping all the new Maori place names, replacing all the English place names. National are just talking about getting rid of bilingual safety signs.

Part of the reset 50% wanted but didnt know about. Forerunner to maorification of all English street, road and town/city names. They'll really be going for it with only 5 months to get it done. And then new govt. whoever that will be has to get rid of lefties in control of govt.depts making these decisions

and the many hundreds of millions spent on all these non-productive, non-core activities
then isn't available for what the people actually voted for; health, housing, education, infrastructure and pensions
so taxes have to be raised again, for the those who already pay the bulk of tax
if you're on the top tax rate of 39% and already paying 15% GST, you're already paying a combined tax rate of over 50%
ngai tahu already earn far more than i do
why am i paying a higher tax rate?

i 'think' tribal business entities are treated somewhat like churches/charities and pay something like 17?% on earnings they're working for their family
i'm working for mine
clearly there are some dodgy definitions that separate us

Māori authority tax rules - Inland Revenue
Māori authority tax rate and maximum ratio The Māori authority tax rate is 17.5%.
...
Tax (when payable) on Maori authority dividends is deducted at a rate of 17.5 percent rather than the normal dividend rate of 33 percent.
For example, South Island tribe Ngai Tahu announced a net worth of $1.147 billion in its 2014 report. Their tax free income (ignoring the Australian subsidiary income) is $157 million. (1)

that's a tricky one - i understand since cuddles has been appointed less than 35% of warrant-for-arrests pull over when requested to by police. so its become fashionable to go for it ( and an example to follow by the upcoming scuzzballs). so now the latest news is they are going to be more hardline and chase more of the lowlifes. this is all well and good until the innocent get caught up in the inevitable carnage. a while back down south driving into town with one of the locals we went past a burnt patch on the main road - sadly a young mother was killed by a couple of young dickheads fleeing the cops. made worse by the fact the cops knew who they were and where they lived but chased them at high speed on a busy road until there was carnage. Tricky for the cops - dangerous for you and I. Flow on effects from Sue Bradfords anti-smacking law?

Not sure how NZTA got my work email but this just came through.
Wonder how much that panel cost the tax payer. It's a whole industry now init, job for life.
Kua tukuna ngā tohu reorua hou ki te ara tuku kōrero More bilingual signs released for public consultation
A package of 94 bilingual signs including public and active transport, walking and cycling wayfinding and others, has been released for public consultation as part of a programme to enable the use of more te reo Māori on traffic signs.
He Tohu Huarahi Māori Bilingual Traffic Signs programme is a partnership between Waka Kotahi and Te Mātāwai. [nzta-onthego.cmail20.com]
Introducing bilingual signs gradually as new signs are needed or old signs need to be replaced minimises costs. Signs will be implemented as they need to be replaced, particularly in hard-hit regions where signs were damaged during the cyclone and new signs are needed.
A panel of te reo Māori experts, Te Pae Whakamāori, proposed translations for the signs. The mana of te reo Māori, safety of the hapori (community) and consistency across the country were key considerations.
Consultation closes at 5pm, 30 June 2023. You can share your whakaaro in te reo Māori or English by emailing rules@nzta.govt.nz. There is also an online form for technical submissions.
