No, it’s not a competition but a genuine question! Haven’t been around the N side of the peninsula for years and noticed this place. Most of the peninsula is densely populated but this looks like an oasis of tranquility. Anyone know what is is? Public reserve or private (the chart days Coal Mine Bay)?

The Peter Snell something err other. Where they do school camps. The whole area is zoned something in the Unitary Plan like landscape protection, to keep it green, completely off the radar for developers, and to allow them to continue the outdoor education programmes they run.

Good grief I had no idea the place even existed - never heard of it 😳 But I’m not convinced that accounts for all the area I was looking at. In the pic here the youth camp is over on the right side and it was certainly visible from the water - looked like a long school building with a green roof plus outbuildings. But the whole left half of this pic looks to be separate including 1-2 private looking dwellings?

View AttachmentI'm not entirely sure, but my understanding is it is held under trust via the Peter Snell trust thing. I do remember that during the Unitary Plan process they were very keen to get it zoned to protect its current use / status, so that it could not be sold to developers (it is mint, prime land) but could still be used for its outdoor education purposes. They needed a particular very peculiar zoning that would allow basic development of the outdoor education facilities but still protect the land in perpetuity. I didn't pay too much attention at the time, as I was balls deep in a number of other Unitary Plan Hearings and a bit over it all by the end of it.
