A complete travisty what is happening to the chopper pilots on White Island. Strange how the MSM aren't covering that. All the official rescue choppers got parked up at Wakatane and were having cups of tea while people were dieing. So the locals got in and sorted it. Then get bent over by the cockwombles. Actually makes me really angry. At the same time Worksafe are prosecuting everyone, like everyone, including GNS, they fucked up themselves. All they did was issue an apology. Sickening hypocrisy. |

I get the impression Kiwirail don't know much about ships. The first clue is the name. But their issues either running them, maintaining them, or trying to work out how to buy them and where to park them reinforce the view. Kiwirail. good with trains (or at least should be). Not so good with ships. |

Another issue would be wanting new ferries to carry heavy rail. That would make NZ unique as everyone else has moved on and haven't built any for a years.
2 billion of the 3 billion was due to having to carry heavy rail. Far less really as about 500 million would be project admin costs.

I chatted to him at a mates daughters wedding 2 month ago and forgot to ask and he didn't mention anything. I couldn't get him, out teaching wooden boat building what a good lad, but according to her the local powers that be received a lot of grief by some very pissed off locals and further afield, some of which was quite brutal. At a similar time Welly powers that be were copping grief about prosecuting chopper pilots who flew out to White Island. It seems the powers that be felt the public feeling which was lets lynch anyone who tries to screw these lads and lassies so things quietly changed from 'we're going screw ya' to 'here have a strongly worded memo' instead. But she also noted the file has not been closed as the investigation is ongoing. |

I tell you, I cannot describe how disgusted I am that the rescue services got stood down in Whakatane while private individuals did the rescuing at White Island, and have been prosecuted for doing the right thing. Probably more so that during the wall to wall media coverage, not one journo bothered to mention the rescue services were stood down, and the saving of lives was left to private individuals, while the PM (Adhern) spouted platitudes from the Podium of Truth. Add to that the same sentiment for someone carrying out a rescue with the Paihia ferry, I'd be happy to join a lynch mob on those fronts. Has anything come of the prosecution of the guy that fucked it up with the Paihia ferry crash? |
