Anyone been? Or going?
I’m going today but only because:
1. Fogg’s insurer gifted me 2 tickets (thanks Pantaenius)
2. I’m contemplating ripping out my entire, aging Raymarine network and replacing with either latest generation Raymarine or B&G. Interested to talk to them both about options and costs etc.
Plus I might take a look at a couple of boats purely out of curiosity. And meet some mates there for lunch.

Was a good few hours out.
Obviously perfect weather (no rain or wind) and the new setup is the best I’ve seen for a while. It’s moved from the viaduct and they’ve used the whole North Wharf for the on-the-water show with lots of space and lots of boats.
And the off-the-water bit is also well spaced and all on one level instead of being broken up into bits & pieces over multiple levels at the viaduct events centre.
Of course far more motor boats than sail but that’s to be expected.
So we enjoyed playing the game of: “If & when we give up sailing what motor boat could entice us over to the dark side?”.
I was surprised with the answer…

What about NKE ? Know nothing about it but it’s well liked in France Top of the line autopilots for high performance racing yachts. You'd need a compelling reason to go for a line of products that is orphan over here though. I've got some garmin gear and I have zero affection for it, but with boat system componentry, I think there is logic with going with large brand with dominant market share. You are more likely to be able to get parts / replacements in the future. We have Nexus gear, it was very good gear, but since being sold to Garmin is now completely orphaned. Major pain in the arse.

They make more than APs and there’s quite a few folk that can afford top of the line . Someone here in NZ is an agent just can’t Remember who

spent today there, quite busy in the morning, quieter in the afternoon. Launches outnumbered yachts at least 10:1 All the new yachts were AWB's, just don't do anything for us with their cheap interiors, some strange layouts and general "built to a price" finish The Spanish boats Fogg likes did not do a lot for us. Talking Lotto territory launches of note for us 1. The Voodoo power cats, room and finish and being able to power up to Fiji in 36hrs in the right weather window is kind of appealing if you can turn a blind eye to using something like 7-8,000 litres of diesel to get there 2. The Palm Beach launches, love their space, teak interiors and general finish, would want to have lots of covers and a boatman to take care of all the exterior varnish work 3. Coming down in size somewhat the Alan Tongs Upfold design 13m is a nice size for the gulf, however $1.4M base is a lot of $$'s for a boat that size 4. The other Upfold design launches by Lloyd Stephenson and Weber Marine, both fantastic standard of finish, NZ still has some boatbuilders right at the top of the game Not much to see in the equipment exhibits that was new but good to catch up with some people I had not seen for years

Someone here in NZ is an agent just can’t Remember who NKE agent is Paul Stock/Wainui Marine wainuimarine.co.nz/My approach to date with electronics, apart from my Raymarine ap now on its 3r computer (which has performed surprisingly well), has been to buy them at the best price you can get from USA and just accept you have no warranty coverage, which is pretty much the case buying in NZ as well. Other supplier, apart from Ray and Garmin to consider is SIMRAD, under the NAVICO umbrella along with Lowrance and B and G, now owned by Brunswick group.

rode past on my bike this morning. Finally a use for that massive wasted "cup" space.

One of my lads who was on a stand at IMTEC many moons ago and gone to every boat show since said it was the smallest range of the most uninteresting gear he'd ever seen. The others who went all said it was very ho hum.
When I said "then is appears I spend my time the wisest of everyone" got a universal 'Yeap'. Rather than do the show I installed the first of my new water troughs and then sited in some new optics I appear to have imported a little bit illegally last week.
All commented on the lack of any of the basics at the show.
