Same further north with the Matakana Link Rd, despite fierce opposition its official name will be Te Honohono ki Tai Road. We will continue to call it Matakana Link Rd

So I am clear on the Puhoi State hwy 1,the only toll is before Johnstone hill tunnels,so using the free route from wairewa and joining at Puhoi there is no charge??Perhaps they should move the toll cameras to Puhoi?
As for the Whangaparoa link. There will still be the free route?
Toll rd in Tauranga, very rarly use as prefer Krangahake gorge but if going whakatane happy to pay toll at Te puke.
Now begs the question,No toll on Transmission gulley.

I couldn't think of a more stupid or confusing name for Penlink. Mind you, that is not a challenge. This woke bunch could easily come up with even more nonsense.
I'm disappointed to see it is tolled, and not just because my house is just around the corner from where it comes out. The minister says they need a toll cause it is going to cost $3mil a year to maintain. REALLY?!? Its about 7km long, that is a shit tonne of money, and for a new road it shouldn't get any potholes for at least 5 minutes (seriously, it shouldn't get any potholes at all)
How can a brand new 7km road cost $3mil/year to maintain? I think someone is pulling someones chain.
Oh, and the other justification for tolling is that it benefits a specific community. That is twaddlebollocks. It appears that Penlink benefits Whangaparaoa. That is not the case. The reason Penlink proceeded was because the Silverdale / SH1 interchange is at capacity (has been for a while) and the extra 7,000 houses going into Milldale and the soon to be constructed "Silverdale West Commercial Area" can't proceed with the current capacity constraint at Silverdale. The solution is to divert Whangaparaoa traffic via Penlink so there is capacity for Milldale and Silverdale west. I was present in meetings when all of this was discussed. So the Minister is talking twaddlebollocks. Nothing new there.
$3/ per trip on peak. That is more than the Johnson Hill Tunnels...

Not quite. Correct there is only the toll gantry just north of Orewa turnoff, for now. We installed foundations and ducting for cables for a future toll gantry near Perry Rd on the new motorway. There is no northbound on ramp at Puhoi, if you come over the hill from Waiwera on SH1 you will have to continue north on the existing road to Warkworth, you cannot access the new motorway. Also no southbound off ramp at Puhoi, if you want to go south bound to Waiwera you will need to travel thru Warkworth . The ramps at Puhoi are a north bound off ramp (the one that all traffic is currently having to use which is creating huge tail backs) and a southbound on ramp.

so they added lots of taxes on to fuel and said it was for building roads
then they moved all money this road fund was accumulating into the general fund so they could spend it on other new things that the majority would probably not been willing to fund
so now when roads need to be built, the fuel taxes road fund has disappeared
and we have to be charged again to use the roads that we should have already paid for
typical bureaucratic skulduggery and the root cause why outside politicians like trump get elected by an angry population to "drain the swamp"
maybe that's why labour want to hand the country over to a maori elite
it's getting too hard to defend their undemocratic actions

$3/ per trip on peak. That is more than the Johnson Hill Tunnels... Of the current Toll road costs most goes to 'administration' according to the mob who administer it, which happens in Palmy North. Don't ask why, I have no idea.

Ah ha, we wondered why not turn on/offs.
Capture the audience them toll them until they bleed.
Went to Tauranga for the weekend down the newish expressway. One lane is semi permanently closed already for repairs/tweaking.

it's getting too hard to defend their undemocratic actions So you'd think but the line being promoted is 'when we asked the locals thought tolling was an option that could work'. I believe that was around a decade ago.
Personally I don't mind fair toll roads. The Northern toll motorway is cheaper than going thru Orewa..........even if it is a shit load more boring when on 2 wheels. The road to Tauranga while nice was boring so I wonder how many accidents involved drivers nodding off.
