Bryce says
Parker could fit that bill – he’s been in Parliament for 21 years and served in the Helen Clark administration as Attorney-General and Minister of Transport. He’s seen as an incredibly solid, reliable politician, with a very deep-thinking policy mind.
By contrast, the rest of the Cabinet often seems anti-intellectual and bereft of any ideas or deep thinking, which means that are too often captured by whatever new agendas the government departments have pushed on them. Arguably that’s why the blunt approaches of centralisation and co-governance have so easily become the dominant parts of Labour’s two terms in power.

You read my mind. I'm going to make a call that another month of bad polling and Chippy will get rolled. He doesn't look like he is enjoying the job. He is making a complete hash of it. But there is nothing better at getting the Leftists to eat their own as bad polls. This current Roy Morgan poll, with a drop of 4.5% to 20 something, that will be causing anxiety. All we need is the other polls to come out showing the same narrative, and it will be coup time in Cabinet.
The irony is that it is the cabinet members as much or more than Chippy that is fucking things up. David Parker abandoning his post is a major red flag.
Of course, I think having a coup this late in the piece will be suicide for Labour, but I've never seen this lot apply logic to anything.
A couple more 20 something poles this month (August), and I'll call it as 50:50 Chippy gets rolled.

Why would anyone with leadership aspirations want to roll a lame-duck PM the ‘night before’ a dead-cert ejection defeat.
Let the electorate formally reject Chippy’s version of Labour and then take control the morning after with a fresh mandate to do something different, based on the election result.

I'm picking Chippy will hang in, he has little option.
Should it be close on the night he'll stay on under the guise of nearly made it so rebuild the remains and try again but he will be rolled later on. If it's a kicking he'll go the next day.
Replaced by one there in the fringe currently not in the spotlight, possibly even a nobody. The hardcore will try to find another soaked in stardust.
