See if you can follow this story. There is a freezer trawler with 80 crew working out of Lyttleton. It was launched as a Russian boat, but was owned by Ukraine. When Russia annexed Sevastopol, the ships registered home port, apparently the ownership transferred to Russian control. Then the shipping agent guy in Sevastopol chartered the boat for so long that the boat would be worthless by the end of the contract. BUT, he made up a fake Russian bank account in the name of the Ukrainian Fisheries, and pocketed $240,000 NZD Apparently the ship is currently owned by a Cypriot Trust, but no one can tell who owns or controls that trust. I think the ship is fishing for the Japanese in NZ, under some legal but morally dodgy arrangement to take all out mackerel. www.stuff.co.nz/national/300893041/how-a-fishing-boat-in-lyttelton-was-stolen-on-the-other-side-of-the-world?fbclid=IwAR1GlLdqGy83xHUZ60pCishO__zxN0ZZSebXbedOIQjhpsHsl0YmwYcl6iA
