Auckland CBD and close in like the Viaduct basin etc
Personally it's a 'Why would ya?' as I find it dirty, tired, unpleasant, feels less safe than Nicaragua and infested with road cones plus the biggie reason of all, what is there that I can't get in a nicer part of the city?
I see a few restaurants, generally the high priced name ones, pleading for people to come back. Sure I can see why they are doing that as they muist be doing bloody hard at the moment but then is it our problem they opened in part of the country many regard as just yucky for many assorted reasons. The odd comment out of one of 2 of the owners seems to suggest they think if we lose their establishments the world will cease to turn also the odd comment that could suggest one or 2 think we owe them as they are that good.
Personally I prefer what's regarded as 'street food' sort of thing. Yeap been to a few of the uber flash places and they ae very good but so are some of those wizened old ladies, often of asian decent, in the shopping mall car park food hall sessions. But I'm not adverse to a good sit down fill er up.
But I am adverse to going to part of the city that's icky and from where I sit many of these people calling for bodies to return to the CBD need to sit down and realise covid has changed the world so they need to catch up and adjust accordingly.
Or am I being too harsh?

No you’re right it’s an awful place that I actively avoid.
If you want a great bar or restaurant you’ll get far better quality, value and accessibility if you go to one of the suburbs eg Ponsonby’ or Newmarket.
I leave the CBD for the crims & cruise-ship passengers. Plus the poor buggers who have to work there.

I don't think I've been to Queenstreet for over a decade. Last time I was in the viaduct area would have been for the on water boatshow.
Closest I've been to the CBD for a long time would be on the motorway heading past it.
Last couple of times I've hooked up with mates from out of town, we've always gone to Newmarket. I don't really like Newmarket, but there is some parking buildings close to where we want to go, a good pub to meet at and a range of eateries for dinner.

I was thinking I may have been having a moment and being too harsh but between here and weekend chatting it seems I, like all here, are very much the majority. On thinking about it the only times I've been over the bridge is to Westhaven boating or at pace on the motorway to places south of the Bombays.
