I see the communist party of NZ has banned the the future sale of tobacco to anyone currently 14 years or younger.
I do not smoke, I would prefer people didn't but it is their choice.
What is next?

Just seen that too. Scary. WTF? I wish BP and his lefty friends were here to defend this kind of infringement on personal freedoms.

I hate this - mainly because it triggers an alien response that I don’t recognise in myself that I used to associate with conspiracy theorists.
But on the upside I think I’ve worked out what the driving motivation is for this regime to be passing all these controlling laws. It came to me when I saw a headline in the UK media referring to it as a “world first”.
So maybe it’s a simple as that. Maybe Clarke has mentored Ardern that she needs to clock up a series of headline-grabbing ‘world firsts’ in eliminating bad stuff, in order to stand a chance on the world stage - and maybe make it to UN DG (where Clarke came close but failed - was loved by everyone but was vetoed by the US btw).
So maybe that’s her agenda - eliminate guns, smoking, covid (oops - not quite! 😊) and God knows what else. Probably not cow farts though. And then wait to be shoulder-tapped onto the world stage soon after standing down from her NZ leadership? The bad news for Gayford is that the fishing ain’t so good in NY.

Oh dear....this brings out the hypocrite in me. Never smoked but parents did. Made me sick with the eternal stench. So acknowledging that this will start a black market, thefts and robberies, and all those bad things.....I support this move. I know I know but smoking has been a legalised blight on the innocents for my lifetime.

You misunderstand if you are 14 years or younger today, you will never be allowed to buy tobacco, ever. Not at 18, not at 80. So basically if you are 15 today, when you can legally buy tobacco, you can smoke for the rest of your life. If you are 14 you will never have the choice.

I reckon this is yet another law that could be challenged by a good budget + legal mind (a bit like the recent MIQ case). Imagine you roll the clock forward 10 yrs and you have two adults in their mid-20s who are standing side by-side in a store and one can buy cigs and the other not - simply due to being born a year earlier. This must be illegal in international law?

So labour wants to ban smoking but wanted to legalize weed. What mixed messages does this send.!!!
Watch the youth gravitate to weed smoking, more thefts from dairy's, and vape.
Smoking has to stop. But this won't work.
Another government cop out.

Simple in my mind as of 1st January 2022,illegal to sell/import/ supply tobacco products. Thats if a govt was serious on it.
Price rising doesnt work.
ok "dutyfree" to get around you not allowed to purchase but I can is easy. I supply too you for a fee.So that law never going to work.

Spot on bro, not hard to grow your own dope, smoke it, get cancer, and die.. That what labour wanted to do with the greens 2 years ago.
