53ft Alan Wright, Deck saloon, fibreglass, 23 yrs old (2000 launched): $33,000Lying Fungarei. They say the engine is running. Just from the photo's it doesn't have an exhaust pipe attached, looks like it needs a new mixing elbow. Clearly needs a bit of maintenance. Interior is in serviceable condition, nice deck saloon and plenty of space. Nice aft full beam cabin. Would make a good live aboard. I wonder what else is wrong with it? Osmossis? Fair to say it looks like a full refit is in order. Engine hours aren't that high, but it's rust that kills engines, not hours. And it's all the ancillary parts that die and cost money, hardly the donk itself. It looks to have good bones / good fundamentals. Wonder what a refit would cost and what an equivalent boat is worth? New boat that size centre cockpit & deck saloon would be arund $1.5 mil wouldn't it? Maybe second hand models down to $1mil? www.parkermarinegroup.co.nz/boats-for-sale/2000-alan-wright-53?fbclid=IwAR1n6j-DCqugQJ7cGVwAQMmIb7v7ddcuACSeVXwrvvDsBE3XmEmXcKR9cK0

That was apparently condemned by a surveyor a few years back , I can’t remember the details but I know the current owner got a very good buy indeed . They never put the main up for some reason only ever seen it cruising around under Genoa and I haven’t seen it outside of Whangarei . Cantab might know more details

Apparently has structural issues around the chain plates which is probably why the main never gets used

Hmmm... some bodgy spots that's for sure. Engine looks like it's not had any love, some of the electrical work is bodgy plus. Also look at the bottom, it;s either years of poorly cleaned then painted over anti fouling or there could be some nasty shit happening under it all.

My first boat was a "cheap" one.
I reckon I spent more doing it up and repairing it than it would have cost to build another hull, probably similar amount of time too.
Luckily it was just a Dinghy, I enjoyed every bit of the experience and learnt heaps.
Must have done something right, I saw it on trademe recently and it looked shit hot, same paintjob I gave it too.
Pretty sure it was over 30 years old when I got it, that was over 30 years ago.
