Cracking day today! One of the best weekends, if not the best weekend weather this year. At least this spring / summer. AND, it's my mother in-law's birthday....
Any predictions on how it would go if I said "We are seeing your mother on the 25th anyway, lets go on the boat instead?"

Cracker day on the Manukau out towards the heads, bloody stunning the western side . Plenty of Freight trains today but did manage 10 snapper from Waiuku Channel in 3m. Actually enjoyed wasting fuel, one of those rare days where you can explore the harbour.

Out for a Sunday daysail yesterday with a group of family / friends / kids onboard. Fogg freshly serviced, relaunched and cleaned all ready for the season. Perfect.
Until.
Autopilot dies.
1 week before Xmas.
Great.
I suspected (hoped) it was the head controlller unit rather than something else deeper in the system - so rushed down to Lusty & Blundell first thing this morning, consulted with technician and picked up a new head unit.
Back on Fogg it was a pleasantly easy task to swap out the units physically (identical mounting). The cabling required a bit more thought to tweak the Raymarine network configuration. But lo & behold it fired up first time.
Still thinking this is too good to be true, I completed dock-side setup before heading out for seatrial setup & calibration. All done.
Even managed to fill up both tanks with diesel before returning to the berth.
Fingers crossed a 24hrs mini-crisis has been averted and the summer cruise is back on again… 🤞

Those new Ray displays are so bloody good to read. Don't forget you can tweak their brightness a lot to suit even very bright sun.

Not the International Cream but I'm pretty sure it was the International 'anti skid' additive. Small jar like packaging of a powder like stuff you mix into your paint.
Mines the actual paint, cant see why though, sanded through gel coat, sugar soaped and wiped with de waxer. primer/sealer then coats deck cream. Yes I know the powder your using. It some how eats in to paint to help cause anti skid? Bit like the old days when you put epson salt on deck and it washed away to leave anti skid tread. I gave mine a waterblast and most has come off. Like like a little is staining from a Willow tree maybe. I've soaked the deck in 30 Seconds so we'll see if that kills the last off or not and whether it will come back or not.
I was going to use sugar but didn't want the sticky decks. Then sand but bugger that weight so brought the good shit.....or so I thought

Yes the keys are certainly much stiffer to press. I hope they soften a bit with time. But far worse is my newish Quick CHC controller which is purely touchscreen for both up & down. The previous one was rubber buttons. Touchscreen means your finger can easily slide off and lose the button if you are concentrating on looking ahead at the anchor whilst operating. Especially if you are inching the anchor with finger taps for the last bit of the raise. The touchscreen was obviously designed by a kid straight out of college not a seasoned boaty. Even worse that Quick allowed this design into production.

Its about the diameter of the heel of my foot. It's mounted on the foredeck just next to the anchor so I have good visibility of everything going on. It's even biosecurity complaint. I can see any caulerpa coming up on it and get rid of it before anyone else notices. And I don't have to worry too much about stopping anything at the top. I just use an anchor snubber back to the bollard to lock the anchor off in it's bow roller. All original 1985 gear. No horrible touch screens in sight ;-)

Gave mine a water blast to find much washed out OK but somethings got on her and made a few stubborn marks even on the no non-skid areas. Just trued some sugar soap and it's coming up fine.
I have also realised I never fully finished the decks so that's handy. Structurally fine, cosmetically not so much. But then she's never had a good paint work under my watch, it was fuckarooted the day I brought it due to the international product the professionals fucked up a lot with.

So far the new electronic thermostat for the isotherm had a spaz. Luckily for mobile data and Google, and lots of tools and bits on board, got it running on a timer system. Wondering why batteries not charging too good, solar hopeless in this weather. Earth lead too hot too touch. More bits and tools got battery back to normal. Cant find the rest of the butter either, rationing for few days. Better than going to work though.
