Jokes aside, I reckon there is often a full moon storm. These two days of pants weather happen to coincide with the full moon on Friday. No statistical analysis or anything, just my perception. Same as how Easter is always dead calm or blowing it tits off, never in between. The blow in the last week of December seems to be almost a given for the Xmas cruise. Certainly agree Feb is a better time for the summer cruise, especially for launchies, typically very light winds (remember AC 2000). Water is warmer as well

Boating at Xmas/New year is so over rated, late Feb March is far better.

Yup - our plan is to relax on land over Xmas / new year and get out on the water whenever the weather looks appealing. Then stay onboard until late Feb / early March, which is what we did last year when the summer just kept going.

apologies, red today/friday. Monday to Wednesday looking good. I see you are off to the Barrier soon. Hopeyou find a weed free anchor zone. targetting Xmas eve for the Barrier and with a new "crew member" looking for a gentle passage to introduce her to the joys pf cruising . The anchoring bans only apply to Tryphena, Blind Bay and Whangapara so not too much of a problem

In a word ....... arse.
Just lost a pile of fencing inc the posts just blitzed at ground level plus 2 paddocks, one being the biggest we have, to a flood caused by that band of rain 5ish, it's cut the place in 2 and cause a huge mess.
Now waiting for the level to drop to see how bad it is.
Worst bit is I think its also taken out the new fence we put in only 2 weeks ago.
as I said .... ARSE!!!

I’m guessing you are south of the mid-north rain belt ? Really gets hammered by summer NW thunder cells and convergence of the sea breezes . Could hear the thunder rolling down the middle yesterday from kaikohe and saw it hitting inland from maungataroto then head out to sea at cape Rodney

But is fish alright? Yeap Fish got thru it fine and is safe, in fact Fish is a little pampered.
But that's OK as it's still in recovery after losing to a possum. It's now seaweed powered as well.

Could hear the thunder rolling down the middle yesterday from kaikohe and saw it hitting inland from maungataroto then head out to sea at cape Rodney Inland from Maungi is Ararua and our place. We are sort of in the centre of the triangle formed by Paparoa, Ruawai and Dagie.
We can sit and watch weather all around us that never gets to us, it's quite weird at times. Maungi got wet as did Ruwawi and Dargie but for a change it was us in the middle that got the guts of it.
After a tidy up on Sunday, thank the F word the new tractor has a awesome 4 way bucket, we managed to bang in a few waratahs that are holding up one bit of the fence that contains the bigguns. The littuns were in one of the submerged paddocks but saw it coming and went high. If they had been down the bottom the water would have peaked at about 1m above them. I pushed them out the back so they are fine. I'm going to bang some new posts in tomorrow which will fix the big end of town. The littuns have a hectare each of grass that is taller then them so they'll be fine.....and probably have to be put on a diet
It was later Sunday when the Wa and a guest both mentioned they saw both herds heading up to the highest points of their allowable roaming areas as the 2 ladies were heading back after some power walking shit and trying to beat the grey clouds rolling in. The stock like the flats and the littuns especially as they were just allowed in and there is some super yummy new grass down there. The 2 herds are kept separate, there is a significant size difference between them, so each herd made it's own call to go high and at the same time so it appears they all knew staying low was going to end badly for them. It's not like they haven't stayed low while it's been pissing down so I wonder what it was that made them realise this wet was going to be so different. They maybe an untapped weather info source, I'm sure they are but I just have to learn to translate them. They aren't the best conversationalists.
I still can't get over the speed at which a 3 hectare paddock went from grass to lake.
