you would think so but maybe PYC not so fussy about it, key issue is 3rd party public liability yes 3rd party only. I've just found out today that the Marina Shop do third party boat insurance and it costs $445 / yr (regardless of the boat as far as I can tell). They are underwritten by the UK outfit Haven Knox-Johnson. As far as I know, this is the only insurer to offer third party only in NZ. I imagine it is getting very popular is the older and lower capital value boats such as mine and this Stewart 34.

They don’t do swing mooring cover though . Our boat is 35 years old and they didn’t ask for a survey or rig check but gave it to them anyway for peace of mind .

I did a request for quote with them today. We are on piles. Will wait and see what they come back with. Curious they didn't ask for a survey or rig check. The online form I filled out asked for both. I supplied both and when they saw that my survey was actually a condition assessment, they got a bit upset and wanted a photo of the boat. I had to do the survey and rig check to renew my current insurance, so I'm now shopping around since I have my documents. Current insurance has gone up $3 on last year, which is as good as I could hope for. $1,350 for a 38 yr old wooden 37fter. I'd be surprised if I can find lower than that to be honest, but at least if I shop around I'll know I'm not getting screwed, or I'll change insurer. Should probably put this in a different thread, been meaning to update on the whole insurance condition assessment saga.

Just got the quote. $1,740, where my current outfit Nautical is $1,368 But the two kickers, that Marina Shop quote excludes club racing AND they require an out of water full survey, despite having sent them an out of water survey that is labelled a 'condition report'. I can't believe I wasted an hour of my life filling out their long and torturous application form if they weren't going to accept the out of water survey as an out of water survey. It was the same full hull tap-tap, just without photos.

Went out yesterday and gentle se roll in firth, went from kkb outside ponui around to man o war bay trolling a bloody lure, plenty baitfish but nothing underneath, ended up in awawaroa bay beaut day but could see weather was going to build from e or ne direction, suspect weekend will be shyte.Have a hunting trip planned for down Mokau way, nephew has a permit to hunt up in a forestry block.
Had to turn a blind eye as 2 big guys slowly bailing a 8/9ft dinghy with a 5/8hp outboard, dont need to be involved with their stupidity.

Interesting looking at the charts to see what is bringing this weather The low way to the east of NZ is feeding the high to the SE which is in turn feeding this wet stream to the low in the Tasman. That low is then recirculating back thru the tropics to that low way to the east again. Forecast is to have the crap weather off the face of the low hit us on Sunday

Forecast for Saturday last - showers in the morning, sun in the arvo. We got the opposite. For Sunday last - heavy rain warning and a strong wind warning. We got 5-10knots and bright sun.
And they reckon Columbia has the best drugs.....

Looking quite nice for the weekend. Might head out... I was hoping to go for a test sail. Alas, nigh on not a breath of wind for three days. It seems you're either out with a storm jib, or burning dinosaur juice, not unusual for winter I guess. But yes, either way, it'll be a nice three days out!
