Coastguard says 7 people transferred to an Ambulance at Matiatia for treatment for smoke inhalation. Conditions don't look that great for anchoring / overnighting in the photos. PW shows the wind at Gannet Rock between 5&6pm about 20knts from 340-350 degrees. Incident Update: A great team effort between our Coastguard Volunteers from Coastguard Maraetai, Coastguard North Shore and Auckland Coastguard together with New Zealand Police and Fire and Emergency NZ. On scene within 20 minutes from the initial MayDay relay from the Maritime Police to rescue 7 boaties who had abandoned their vessel that was on fire in Oneroa Bay, Waiheke Island. The lucky boaties have been transferred to an awaiting ambulance at Matiatia for treatment for smoke inhalation and fire crews remain on scene with the vessel to get it under control. Amazing mahi and a great result due to some quick thinking by those onboard and a great response. Shows how quickly the unexpected can happen out there. If you were on the water today - hope it was a good one and the fish were biting!
