Sadly the NZ yacht Casteele (Paul and Amanda from Napier) lost its rig in the Torres Strait a week or so ago www.facebook.com/Bigredboat/Understand they were hit by a squall and the rig came down. They set up a jury rig and made it into Cooktown QLD looking at the pics I suspect it was a compression failure in the mast section below the lower spreaders. I first met Paul and Amada on the Island Cruising Rally in 2019, then coincidentally we cleared out from Marsden Cove together last year. They travelled thru Fiji, Vanuatu, Solomons, PNG and Indonesia before heading back towards Australia. Glad all are safe and at least being in Australia good repair options will be available. The ocean is always testing us and our boats looking for any weaknesses.
