Have been looking at the electrons, as we have a small fleet down here in Whitianga. For a small model they're not cheap. Could buy a real boat for the same price. I have a mate down here said if I buy one, he will too, so will see where we go from here.

I've got a model yacht parked in the lounge that looks the same style as an electron but slightly different. About a metre long, foot deep keel and mast maybe 1.3m high. Looks very similar to our Birdsal, so a mate got it for me as a gift from some random auction house several years ago. Hasn't got any of the RC or servo stuff, have been looking into getting that stuff so Mr 9 can play with it, bit like going down a rabbit hole looking at RC stuff though. It is all set up to have the RC stuff and possibly did have it in a past life.

See how you like it. Matt Algie is the man

They’re great little boats. They handle so well. Nothing else compares. Unless you’re talking IOM or something similar.
I’ve got one of the Des originals which I bought 20yrs ago.

Use to do a lot of Marblehead racing and iom racing. But from a fun Sunday afternnon soon priced me and others out. Last time I looked at a iom $1200/1500 without R/C gear. Marbleheads were being imported from the UK Bantock from memory for $1800 that was early 1990s

They are the Stewart 34s of the RC world I reckon . I worked for a guy in Kerikeri who had two in the late 90s , we had some great battles on the lake up by Tākou Bay .

Prices have gone up a bit since then HT. Try $4k. Just have to find out the wait time for a new one. Will get back to you DP after the school holidays, as will be full on with grand kid minding for a couple of weeks. I have been down to watch them the last couple of Sundays and had a bit of a play. Have to be mindful of not playing bumper boats with other peoples toys.

Interesting how a dog could foot it in a match against a top of the range iom. Prices were silly back then so sold up and brought a trailer sailer.
