Time for a new portable GPS. My old Garmin is going onto screen fade but it would have to be 15 plus years old, maybe even 20, and done some miles on land, sea and air so can't complain.
Portable as there are many options.
No need for it to make cups of tea or be able to dissect the angle of the 14th dangle when the Moon is rising Aries techno stuff only 2 people in the world would ever use. Just give a position, track to waypoint and the basics like that.
I have a Garmin watch with twin positioning etc but they are hard to read fast. A potentially handy device but not one you'd want to uses in a serious situation. So thinking more the 150 x 100mm +/- size device.
What would you buy?

I have that but it's not a serious system. I prefer stand alone and simple, they work cleaner faster for longer without all the erroneous dross potentially fuckin with it. How many phones do you know that are 15-20 years old and still allowed to work. Besides I have yet to see one of these smartphones and reckon they are just another conspiracy theory. When you think about it what can you find more uses for, a phone or a pencil making which one smarter?

GPS app on your smart phone ? We learnt our lesson with smart phones and wet boats. Totally useless, especially when events require you to text reporting points. Bought a burner with buttons just for holding my sim card during the race that can receive and get texts no matter how wet or cold my hands are

Tossing up between - Aera 600 - move aviation based GPSMap 76i GPSMap 66i Montana 700i
Aera is more aviation based and touch screen Montana has nice size but is touch screen only. With my retiring Map version I learnt the buttons so could change a few things without looking and the GPSMaps have the same buttons, less learning possibly.
The 76i I think has the edge due to the Sat Comms angle.
But bugger me spoiled for choice out there. All of the above are Garmins, I've had a good run with Garmon so....
