You're right. Wait 'til Albo & his union cohorts get going. Maori's are writing a treaty for the 'first nation' people. And you'll need the double pay you get just to pay car rego and electricity bills. NZ is going to get ruf /tuf and leaving is a good option. But oz may not be it

so Fogg, where is this Nirvana you are relocating to - surely not India? The plan is a follow-the-summer rotation between Europe, NZ and India on occasions. Remembering I can work from anywhere so it comes down to easy access to high-quality education, the broader historical & cultural exposure of Europe (15 countries on your doorstep) and richer range of opportunities for our children. Plus better weather of course.

Yup great question.
Currently the plan is a combination of private / international school when in Uk / Europe plus home-schooling when in NZ. We envisage being in NZ during the NZ ‘summer’ so would give the kids a break for some of it but homeschool for the rest. We plan to live on Fogg for as much of that time as possible.
The plan is to get the children into schools running the Cambridge curriculum (majority of private schools using Cambridge or IB) and the added bonus is Cambridge curriculum is globally highly regarded and very portable. All the families I’ve met cruising in recent years are home-schooling their kids Cambridge from the boat. Which makes the transition back into land schooling easier.
Obviously there’s no easy, right answer. But I’d rather try exploring an alternative model than just continue sitting here in NZ complaining about things.
I don’t mind paying tax if I think I’m getting a fair deal. And I no longer think I am in NZ. So I want to redirect my taxes to another place that I feel will treat my family better in the long term. NZ no longer feels like that place.

It’s a really difficult decision to up-sticks and even harder to decide where to head to. And the pros & cons of different countries depend on your personal circumstances. All I know is that NZ has become very unattractive to me and my family for multiple reasons and from recent high-profile news headlines (like this weekend) I know I’m not alone in thinking this way.

Although many people like to blame all their problems on the Govt. No, it’s about a far deeper NZ societal problem that is hard to describe in a brief forum post. And it won’t be fixed by any election result. Not in my lifetime anyway.

Be good to get the kids into that sort of lifestyle before they hit highskool and start getting attached to thier peer groups etc. My oldest has just started highskool and one of the dads from my kids team was saying his oldest kid has gone to uni in Melbourne. The nuzlid uni rankings are too low for her liking. And she is by no means alone by the sounds, quite a group of k1w1's at that uni for the same reason. It sounds very idyllic, hard to think of a reason not to at least try it for a few years.

Yes, the plan is to give it a try at least. If it doesn’t work out we’ll tweak the plan and probably need to decide where to re-settle, either back in NZ or elsewhere.

camus on ignorance
“The evil that is in the world always comes of ignorance,
and good intentions may do as much harm as malevolence, if they lack understanding.
On the whole, men are more good than bad; that, however, isn’t the real point. But they are more or less ignorant, and it is this that we call vice or virtue"
and this why it's so sad that our education system is failing
and even science is being corrupted to dance to the tune of the currently clothing of failed sociastlist ideology

As I travelled a lot as a youngun I made sure mine did as well. It opens their eyes to so much including the fact NZ is not the little paradise at the bottom of the world. It's still better than most but the picture many paint is just not true and that does make the many, who haven't travelled much, think stupidly to the point they are helping the decline.
We talked about bailing for an extended period, not permanently as we both want to clock out here, but we couldn't find a place that offers us what we have here. Besides the Wa wanted old and relaxed where I wanted vibrant and go ahead so a bailing was probably also going to come with a divorce We have the place in Hanoi so it's an option if push really came to shove. The kids seem happy enough here, D1's male mate wants to move to Aussie but D1 has the same view of that place as I do, fantastic to fly in and shit stir silly for a week, but to live fuck that shit.
